Safety Precautions & Mistakes

Hey guys just wanted to make sure that when you guys work on your cars to please use jack stands. i know many of you know this already and i do to, but sometimes i dont always use them, and i should.

tonight a friend of mine had his car fall on his head while working on his magnum. he is ok, hes in the emergency room getting stitches, i was not there the time of the accident but i have confirmed with my friends that he was pulled from underneath the car in time and is ok and conscious.

but this is the 2nd time it has happend to a friend of mine, i was there the first time it happend with my friend, it fell on his chest and we got him out before any fatal injury.

please guys dont be stupid, i know its not great advice coming from a 17 year old, but at least take safety precautions.

didnt mean to make any of you guys sad but i just wanted to let you guys know, happy new years by the way.

i never trusted jacks before and i never will...if i need to get under my car i put it on jacks but i secure it with bricks next to the stands....i feel much safer with it...

If I have to use a jack and don't have jackstands nearby, I will always put the wheel down underneath the car incase the jack fails. This is a rarity though, if I'm at home I always use jackstands. There's really no reason you shouldn't for the extra 5 seconds it takes to put one underneath.

ya, its really not worth it at all to save you the extra time for setup and clean up

also, when i talked to him, it wasnt that he didnt use jack stands, what happend was he was working on a driveway that was steep. the car was on jack stands but when he lifted the jack off the stands to raise it, the jack rolled and it fell

but hes ok now and working on his car again ha

been there done that. Definitely makes your butthole pucker a bit, especially if your ride is any kind of low. I had a 1/4in of metal pretty much save my life. Had the jack on the frame of my slammed p'up, it slipped off while I was completely under it and lucky for me caught the leaf spring hanger by 1/4in. Otherwise I'd be missing some ribs. Used jack stands ever since.

The part where you asked whether he was just re-posting this from somewhere else.
He's just reminding people to take precautions and showing what can result if appropriate measures haven't been taken. It's pretty obvious that it's his friend as he has stated that at the beginning. And as for track record, when he updated people on Elvis's car, regardless of the big whine about competition factor between websites, he mentioned at the beginning of the thread that he was re-posting and he did have permission to do so. So with your logic, if he has told people he was re-posting before, why would he not still do so if this thread was another re-post? Think about what you say before being disrespectful.
