      Think back to 50's... parts had to be made. You couldn't just flip open a catalog and say "I want this and this and this to modify my car," pay for it with your credit card, get it in the mail the next week, and bolt it on the day after like you can now. Hot rodders built engines and fabbed parts. I want to say 1 out of every 100 car people these days do that. If not less.
      I think you hit the nail on the head of what a true hot-rodder is.

      Any fuckstick can order parts from a catalog, or bolt on a turbo kit. Hot rodding is about craftsmanship, skill, and originality.

        Okay, its not beautiful, but its all bodged/crafted(?!?) out of Landrover parts and a fibreglass Model T shell - it got us very banned from a good few shows for noise limit breakage and speed limit breakage. It never made it down the drag strip, though we did use it for some horrendous mudding.

        This one turned up on my doorstep a few months back with a brand new engine - 38 miles since its entire rebuild - I was very jealous. Thats dad talking to the owner.;

                      Should have just put a Ford in it to begin with.

                        I don't see how one can claim to like modified cars without liking hotrods.

                          Agreed. Can't call yourself a true enthusiast if you don't appreciate the history.

                            I agree completely. Unfortunately, the latest up-and-coming generation of drivers and car modifiers don't have a very good appreciation for history. Most of them are spoiled fucking brats and drug addicts.

                              dang right...when the world is only left with generation x and later beings its going to be horrible. The Hokey Ass Message Board (Hamb) is an awesome hot rod forum with very cool stuff and a bunch of old timers that know there stuff and historical info.

                                I remember joining the Jalopy Journal when I was 13... if that gives you any sense of how deep my respect is for old-timers and original hot rodders.
