This thread is kind of a relief, makes me realize I am not the only one with these problems.
Twice in the last month have I been in a similar situation. First time there was a previously killed possum the size of a basketball in the middle of the road. Car coming in other lane, no room to swerve. Clunk. Possum guts/hair on bottom of car. Second time was an abnormally large raccoon, also already dead... but it was fatter and I actually felt the car bounce up/slow down upon impact.
I don't know why the forest-dwelling mammals around here are so large. The possum in the OP looks like a rat compared to the fat fucker I smashed.
