    Thoughts on this?

The way I see it is if some crazy lunatic came shooting up my school, I'd like to have someone (if not myself) have an opportunity to defend mine and also other people's lives instead of just letting them go willy-nilly on the rampage until law enforcement shows up. How many lives could have been saved if someone (or people) were allowed to defend themselves when carrying? Although, I do see the other side of the argument. Someone who meets the criteria to be able to CC, but still not fully rational in his/her mind can just as easily go on a said rampage. But, at the same time, whoever would do that in the first place wouldn't hinge on the fact that they were doing it legally or not [with the CHL].

what we need now is constitutional carry = no permit required to carry concealed or open carry.

Great idea, I don't think its so much a right as it is an obligation to carry a firearm, it is the sole reason the great United States of America will never be invaded on our soil, or fall to the power of another country, we are an armed society.

Hope TN follows suit soon, I currently am stuck working in a gun free zone/shooting gallery, not that I don't occasionally forget/get stuck and carry to work anyway but luckily the Police on campus are excellent about letting staff check weapons while at work due to the goofy wording of the state laws.

That is the one gun law I hope never happens.

In regards to this, I don't see the point, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Opinions on the subject of gun ownership aside, no, this is completely false. It's not the fact that citizens are armed that makes an invasion of the USA extremely unlikely. At all.

Remind me, why would we want this?

I wish it would happen here. Although the law (no firearm campus) exists, it doesn't really seem to matter to some.

We've had 3-4 shootings in the last 2 years (only 1 killed), 6-8 armed robberies, numerous assaults, thefts, and enough drug dealers to suit a sizable city in this middle-of-nowhere, 10,000 student state school (keep in mind, nearly 55% are commuters). It's quickly turning said town into a hood. It's changed so much in the 4 years I've been here, I never thought I'd own a gun, but ever since last semester (with the deadly shooting), I've been shopping. These numbers aren't extraordinary, but when you're in a town that barely covers 12 square miles given the time frame, it's a little frightening.

I like the idea. More responsible gun carriers isn't a bad thing in my mind.

gun ownership is fine and all, but as long as the owners are required by law to take the same training cops do.

i can see the headlines now "hundreds wounded as three armed students discharge their weapons in a large crowd in an attempt to bring down one shooter."

                        great idea.

Let's solve the gun problem with more guns... Yeah there ya go. The mental abilities of people in this country never cease to amaze me.

I support this 100%. My goal after college it to work for the Feds/State in some form of Enforcement agency i.e. DEA, Marshalls, State Troopers, and I will start my formal small arms training as soon as I can get my pistol permit, CC will follow asap after that. I have absolutely no problem with guns on campus, I hope this gets passed. Im sure it will prove it's usefulness very quickly if it does.

I find this odd, last time I hit the range I bested both the police officers I was there with.

I see the headlines reading more like "attempted shooting foiled when gunman, pinned down by 2 armed civilians, takes his own life"

Do you also think the Fort Hood shooting would have been the same had the shooter entered a non "gun-free" portion on the base such as the armory or the range?
