  • Being Low + HPDE-ing= Anybody Doing It?

How many of you are 'stanced and track your car in HPDE events?

Going low doesn't always mean it's all for show owww! lol

(I'll admit I did raise it quite a bit for this trackday in June '10 )

    Other's from that day:

Considering 99.9% of the time, lowering your car that much is detrimental to the overall suspension geometry, you'd be hard pressed to see a car doing HPDEs being that low.

Now, drifting on the other hand, they do it all the time, but they're not trying to corner for grip, haha.

Not all cars are VWs, don't pull numbers out of your ass

Plenty of cars can be lowered and have improved handling with the geometry reworked, but being completely slammed to drive the piss out of your car on a track doesn't really make much sense either.

That's why I said lowered to that extent.

Most cars do share the same steering tie-rod setup and machperson strut design, though. Those are the two major issues with being slammed....your toe curves go right out the window and your roll center is completely out of whack once your lower control arm angle hits the angle that most of us are running when slammed.

There are ways to resolve the issues mentioned above and perform well, but it's a path rarely taken among the stance community at the moment.

I regularly auto-x and have had it HPDE'd but with a different set of rims and tires. Still slammed tho

I didn't do any HPDE because it costs money.

But I did compare auto-x lowered, and auto-x at 4x4 height, and 4x4 height was much better.

remember the exhaust on the way back?

I approve of your signature too, no italicizing either.

+1 on the geo angles, its not just VWs. E30s become a lot more fun to drive with mild lowering, but the angles go out the window pretty quickly, i know mine are out. Ive wanted to find/make a solution similar to the roll center spacers you can get for e30 m3s, but its honestly a low priority right now

I also won our Mod Street Tire Class this year

The car loves being dumped, the biggest difference is that it makes the car twitchy and unforgiving. But even more fun to drive
