did a little bit of work today. i think i've finally come to a conclusion on what colors i'm doing. since i'm painting the lips i filled in the curbage with my friend matt's metal2metal. that stuff works wonders.

    curbage before:

look for some heavy progress to be made this week.

That metal putty worked great. Might have to track some down for the just in case supplies.

            update:

i went yesterday and got paint/primer/clear with my friend matt. it was a little more expensive than i thought, but in the ballpark so whatever. my goal today was just to get them taped off. but i made it a bit farther which i'm stoked about.

it look me three hours to tape off the lips. the most time consuming part was just making sure i had a perfectly straight piece of tape in the lip where the colors will come together. i cut the first piece every inch or two so it had some room to move. after that i got a pretty decent method going to tape the rest off. once that was all flat on the lip i laid more pieces to fill in the gaps, and then taped down some newspaper. i can only imagine what a bitch this will be when i go to paint the lips. i don't foresee myself refinishing monoblocks ever again.

after all that was taped off i still had a couple hours of daylight and the wind died down so i went in the garage and cleaned all the faces/inserts/centercaps. then i grabbed the primer and went to town. all in all it came out decent. there's a run on one of the wheels which i'll sand tomorrow, but overall i'm happy since i was able to accomplish a bit more than planned. tomorrow i'll be painting the faces so stay tuned...

here are a few pics i took of today's progress:

                Very nice, but one question.
Why did you not just prime the whole front face right away?

i'm using a lighter color primer on the lips to help promote that color a little better.

                  darker primer for darker colors.

                  lighter primer for lighter colors.

i came to the dilemma last night about clear coat. the can i bought you have to pierce on the bottom to activate the hardener. the can is only good for 24 hours. i could wait until the end to do the lips and faces at the same time, but i'm worried about damaging the paint on the face since nothing is protecting it. i think i'm just going to have to cough up the extra money and get another can. it seems like i waste, but i want these done right.

                        progress:
i'm not big on keeping secrets or teasers. people kept asking me what i was doing, but i didn't say because i hadn't bought the paint yet. now that i've bought the paint and committed to what i'm doing, i don't mind. i am going to make you guys wait on the lip color until it's sprayed though.

anywho, here are some pics. color matched bmp centers. it looks so much better in person under the light. i'm freakin' stoked.

                        dried primer

                        black magic pearl paint

looks a little glossier and pearlier in person. remember this is without clear yet.

i'm kind of happy, and upset at the same time. i sprayed the wheels with clear this afternoon. they started coming out awesome and i was excited about how much more the color popped.

now i had taken measures to minimize dust and clean the wheels. it wasn't a perfect area to paint in, but should have been better than it turned out. there are a few dust spots on each wheel and center cap. they're hard to spot in the picture, but they stand out like a sore thumb in person(to me anyway). live and learn i guess.

took the tape off this morning. i don't wanna toot my own horn, but the tape job near the lip/face was perfect on each wheel. but no one will be able to tell unless the next tape line is just as accurate. haha.
