i got these mae crown jewel 1's(monoblocks) back in october. i rocked them as is for a month or so with plans on refinishing them over the winter.
wheels in question:

now i finally got cracking on them last week when i stripped the center caps. the top layer of paint came off no problem. but the original paint/primer was underneath and it's a b!tch to get off. i had to use 4-5 coats of paint stripper and scrape away what i could each time. i went out and bought a black and decker sander at walmart yesterday for $8. the guy said they were leftover from black friday. i ran out of paint stripper last night and sanded a decent amount of the paint and primer away with 220 grit. it's time consuming though. i'm gonna pick up more paint stripper tomorrow.
supplies:

progress:
before

second coat of stripper

you can start to see down to the machined finish

sanded near the mae logo with the power sander with 220 grit

stripped center caps i'll have to order new logos because they were hot glued on and no easy way to get them off.
my original plans were to fully polish these. but i don't know if i have the patience. the faces are easy enough, but the inserts and recess near the lip are a pain in the ass just to strip. i can't imagine it's going to be much fun to polish either. i'm looking for some opinions.
1) man up and do a full polish
1.5) pay someone to polish them
2) finish stripping everything and repaint the faces/inserts the original silver
3) finish stripping everything and repaint the faces/inserts gold(i miss my gold wheels)
4) finish stripping everything and repaint the faces/inserts a really retinal searing color
keep an eye on this thread. i'll update it as progress is made. feel free to share your thoughts/comments/suggestions.
