  • Reverse mounting BBS RS'

Is this a safe thing to do? Who is running their wheels like this? My cars not a daily driver but I do drive it often in the spring and summer months.

At least on the set I had, the faces are actually sandwiched between the lips and barrels, but the lips and barrels were built such that they also mated together around the outer edge of the faces. So putting the faces on the insides of the barrels would leave a gap between the barrel and lip mounting surface that can't be brought together, and would be very unsafe.

its been done many times before. I wouldnt do it as its not seated fully on the wheel halves, but to each their own. I have a friend who has done it for years and no issues with NYC driving. Im not condoning it though

Thanks guys I'm just trying to get that extra half inch so I can run a larger lip. A 2'' lip is much better looking than a 1.5'' lip.

You can machine Your centers to accept that mount. The RS070 are made that way from factory, but the design of the wheel is also different.

Check Your wheels! If you have enough material, You can mate the lip and barrel with the rear mount configuration by machining the center on a lathe. Here is a photo of the RC041 center done to accept front mount configuration.

Here is a photo of regular RS070 rear mount configuration from factory.

This does not make sense. You will gain a ½ inch inner clearance, and push the lip out by the thickness of the barrel. If you reverse mount them.

Reverse mount meaning mounting the face behind the barrel... not the face in front of the lip or a front mount....

Won't reverse mounting them leave a strange gap from the lip to the centre, as in the centre will look sunken down from the lip? Obviously the standard sandwich mount leaves the centre and the lip flush with each other, but reverse mounting them will have the centre sit lower than the edge of the lip, which will look a bit strange won't it?

A buddy of mine is running his Oz Futuras like this and it looks fine. I know they are not bbs rs' but its the same concept.

I know that, and you should listen to me. By putting the barrel in front of the face, that normally is sandwith mounted. You will PUSH the LIP outwards, because the BARREL will be IN BETWEEN the FACE and LIP. Remember that the face will stay in the same place. its only the lip and barrel that move around, the wheel would also change width.

The Futuras are built that way standard.

Ill try and do a visual on this matter. a AWESOME paint photo coming up.

Hope this picture works, I tried to explain it real simple. Hope it clears up some confusion.

*edit, correction of the "FRONT MOUNTED" text. You will have less inner clearance around 1/4". tho the lip will poke ½" less, allowing persons to larger lips.

Just trivial FYI Not all Futuras are rear mounted, but Zic is making a valid point here.

Zic thanks for the fantastic photo! I see what your saying now. I think that it would look dumb if I front mounted the faces. So I think I'll just stick with the normal sandwich mount. I wasn't thinking the geometry was like this so your photo helped alot. Thanks man. Oh and I love your E28 by the way!
