    Wow, allright. Thanks for that....

As I am not going to use chemicals at my casa' I will continue to find some reasonable DIYH solutions. I am going to be painting mine black, so I may not need to get all the contents off the wheel for me to do this with desired results. Follow?

Hope to get some pics uploaded this weekend.

The lips on my Walds were chromed.

Took about 8 hours all said and done, but I wetsanded each of them to the bare aluminum with 180 grit.

        Good luck

Most platers won't touch chromed wheels with a 10 foot electrode. California is your best bet as many of the US wheels get chromed there.

Here is what it looked like before I sent it out.

Here is the after pic. At first it seems fine and dandy, but on the second picture you can see where the chrome had peeled and the glass blasting, from what they told me they used, did not take enough material off that I had hoped for... Ugh, so off to some begger more adavnced shop for some heavier blasting.

The best way is to mix baking soda or household cleanser and water into a paste that you can rub onto the chrome with a soft cloth until it comes off - with considerable elbow grease.

I have sandblasted chrome before, and yes it can damage the aluminum, the BEST way to remove is to have it acid dipped. I believe they use a Muriatic acid or something of the sort that eats it down to the metal. Doing this at home is pretty much no bueno

My question would be how bad of damage was there to the aluminum? I want to paint them flat black, so small amounts of damage may be fine if its not visable when painted over.

more sandblasting will do what you want, and leave the wheel with a good surface for painting.

acid like Muratic will eat into the aluminum and create a gas that's at least not good to breathe.

the acid may creep under a layer of plating if it's already peeling, but as it eats through the layers and gets to the raw aluminum it'll start eating it. leaving an unevenly pitted surface unless whoever is doing the chrome removal process knows what they are doing.

Will do thanks. Ill be sending another one to a nother shop for actual sand blasting, and not just little glass beading. I did finish sanding the other wheel down to its roots, and will be painting it soon enough, hope this weekend.

Sanded down, cleaned and ready for primer.

                          First coat:

After the 3rd coat. Needs a little fix in places.

Sanding and then black paint to come.

Thats as far as I have gotten with them. Ive been too busy to finish this one up. Maybe in the next week or two. I have yet to remove the chrome plating, more so just sanded it down enough to paint over.
