"Knock off" seems to imply a cheaper price, that would undercut the "real" one, despite the lower quality.
Like Rota:
When WORK does it it's design copying, but when Rota or XXR does it it's considered fake? It's funny the euphemisms we create to paint our preconceived notions. If Rota or XXR made their wheels in forged aluminum instead of cast like 98% of the world's wheels, would they no longer be considered fake and instead be just design copying?
my .02 cents is that i wish i had the money to buy rotiform, or work wheels, which are higher quality, but for now, ill rock XXRs becuase im a college student; which limits my funds, and becuase im rocking lower quality wheels, im not going to expect anyone to flaunt themselves over my car. idk. thats what i think.
The thread was created 15 days ago and all posts in it are within one or two days from each other. What gives you the impression that the thread has ended?
I only asked this question originally because i noticed many of the "regular posters" on here would say shit like "nice car but buy some 'real' wheels for it" and crap like that so i was merely seeking some clarification as to what people meant by 'real',
I have now come to the conclusion from all the opinions here that its more murky then the splash pool after some kid has diarrhea in it.
'real' seems to be a term that really doesn't fit anything well and is more so just kind of a slap in the OP's face in regards to their choice in wheels. I guess don't publicize your stance if you cant take some smart ass comments from people 3000miles away.
Nowadays, I don't really care anymore if anyone runs real wheels or not. I'm sure Rotas for example are of a reasonable quality - else they wouldn't be TÜV approved here in Germany! They wouldn't be my first choice if I was looking for a set of wheels as most of what they offer is not really my kind of wheel (I prefer classic europeon 80ies - 90ies 3pc wheels), but I don't have any problems with people running them.
What bugs me personally however is passing off your BBS (or other wheels) replicas made by Lenso or other companies off as a real wheel. For example the Lenso BSX, even using BBS hex caps and BBS Logos to pass them off as genuine RS. I really don't like that.
The other thing I really don't like, but this goes for all wheel manufactureres, is fake splits. Do not want!
