Tried searching and didnt see an answer to my question. I am possibly purchasing a set of used professors for my E36. They are 18x8.5 et 42 and I'd like to get some new lips and widen them. Anyone rebuilt these? I have found some Work lips which are also 40 hole but some old threads I have found about the professors say the lips and barrels may be welded together not just bolted and sealed? TIA

Yes it would be obvious....if they didn't have tires on them. I am trading for them and the seller is currently using them. I am trying to find out before getting them if they are welded or not, if they are I will pass as making them the size I want will not be very easy or cost effective.

i honestly dont think they would be welded. that doesnt make much sense to weld a 3pc wheel.

Alot of Jap "3 piece" wheels are welded and are actually two piece, found that out the hard way...

professor sp1's are true 3 piece wheels, but the barrel and lip are welded from factory as a
safety concern and then sealed with silicone on top on the weld. http://www.ssr-wheels.com/technology/
my vienna dish's are the same way.1970 Toyota Corona Mark II - project kyushabozo1995 mk3 vw golf - daily

just hover your mouse on the 3pc logo above the wheel image.
same goes for any of they're 3pc designed wheels. depending if the face is top mounted, the face may be removable.Last edited by Ed6_Civ; 03-07-2012, 06:17 PM.1970 Toyota Corona Mark II - project kyushabozo1995 mk3 vw golf - daily
