  • E30 offset help - streetable but aggressive?

    Hi All,

I know there've been threads like this before, namely that Jerk guy's one. But it never quite hit the nail on the head for my situation so i thought i'd ask fresh.

I am looking to buy custom wheels due to the strong AUD$. I can choose size, offset and brake clearance. My car info:

    - Late model
    - Arches will be rolled but don't want to flare
    - Will have coilovers with camber plates (perhaps BCs)
    - I have a rear camber weld in kit, welded for ~1/4 of its range in positive & ~3/4 of its range in negative adjustment.

Now i live in Australia & the cops are harsh, and my car is DD. So i want very flush, but no poke really. If any, just a touch like 1-2mm.

    I am looking at 16x8.5 +10 and 16x9.5 +10. Tyres i am unsure, perhaps 215/40 all round?
I was leaning toward +5 in front, but don't want imbalance to the front like so many E30s have.

Can someone please comment if this will be a good compromise?

I figure i could still run 5mm spacers if i wanted to push it out a little more, but i would rather do that if i feel like it than be stuck with wheels that are too aggressive and feel like i was in the police spotlight every time i drive.

I know E30s are played out and offset question even moreso, so any input from you guys would really be appreciated.

    thanks,
    Ant

get a ruler . . measure from the wheels you have right now, to the point you want the "new" ones to sit . . and do the math . . . it's not that hard . .

Fucking this^ x 1000000000. It's been said about that many times aswell. Apart from measuring tools like a ruler or tape measure there are also many online calculators to compare wheel specs such as willtheyfit.com.

Put your current wheels in there with the tyres, put the new ones in there with the tyres (guess at first if you have to). Then when it tells you how much more it will poke (if it will) go out to your car and measure where the wheel will sit using the difference. Then do it again if you don't think it'll work. Take note of the shape of the tyre to guage fender clearance

I had hoped someone with an e30 might've commented. I didnt know about willtheyfit.com so i couldnt see how my stock 14x5.5 +35 with a 195/65 would be comparable. I don't have coilovers or rolled guards yet either so cant play around and guess as I'd like to. Also the rear camber is set neutral and I'd rather not try to adjust it as it seems pretty tough to get to.

I figured i could get close but could never get within the specifics of 5-10mm of offset I wouldn't have thought.

Thanks for the link tho I'll have a play with that site.
I'm not completely stupid at this, it is just much easier if you've played with fitment on the car in question..

Not having a dig it's just so silly to ask about this stuff. There's so much info on how to measure and if you just googled there would be a lot of cars with those specs to use as an example. Thing is, no one knew you didn't have the fenders rolled etc, only you know all the little important bits of info (that are the difference between working and not) so when someone who has done their set up gives you their deal, it wouldn't work with yours anyway because not every rolled fender is the same, camber is never the same, not every car is exactly the same in general blah blah blah

Good luck though, looking forward to seeing some pics

            . .

even without any site you should be able to do the math . . unless you are
            completely stupid at this
. . your words, not mine . . it's a simple adding of width and difference in ET . . any 1st grader should be able to do that . .

btw: are you running steel wheels right now? . . 5.5x14 sounds like a steel wheel . . even the bottlecaps are 6x14 . .

Yes factory steel wheels with hubcaps.

It's more the effects of camber I was wondering about. That isnt easy to do by simple width sums. Plus having such balloony tyres and unrolled guards is hard to visualize even when jacking the wheel up into the guard. If I've learnt anything from other vehicles it's that tyre stretch and camber can make a big difference with fitment.

Was hoping the guy with the black slammed e30 may've commented as he has camber kit etc
