  • Need help disassembling wheels

Hey everyone, I just picked up a set of Work VS-SD's for my s14. Before I put them on, I would like to either refinish or powdercoat them. I have never taken apart a 3 piece wheel before so I am wondering if it is something I should attempt myself or should I just take the wheels somewhere to be on the safe side?

Find out what type of bolts they use. Common ones are M8 12pt, so just get a 8mm 12pt socket for the bolt heads and a common 10mm 12pt for the nuts and have fun.

I did not have a 8mm 12 point so I used a 12 point closed end wrench, and then I exerted force on the 10mm 12 point. I found it also helpful if you break the bolts loose first from the back only, then when you go to remove them you can use an electric impact drill to make the job go quicker. If you are going to be reusing your bolts I suggest putting plastic wrap over bolt then the wrench/socket to act as a protective layer between the two.

this is the impact driver i used.

an example of the 12 point 8mm box end that i used as well.. (didn't have a socket and I did not want to buy one)

Ok thanks for the advice. Now what about re-assembly? Any kind of special adhesive? And if I get them powdercoated will the extra thickness of the powder and clear coat affect how the wheels are re-assembled?

Don't powdercoat where the bolts are going if the wheels are sandwich mounted (just powder the face that you see). If they're reverse face or face mounted, it should be fine as long as the powdercoat isn't REALLY thick.

I just use Permtex RTV silicone which you can find at Wal-Mart or Autozone.

          Good DIY Thread:

Do they make that in a big enough tube that you could use a caulk gun?

Ok, its been a little while, but I figured I would throw up a few pics so that everyone has a better idea of what I'm looking at. Looks like I'll need to soak the nuts before I try to break them loose just to make life a little easier

Does anyone know what the torque specs are for the Work bolts off hand?
