  • Widening rims?

I have a set of 16x8 mercedes bottlecaps in my garage and I was wondering if it was possible to widen those rims?

I have seen people do it to steelies and simple rims like that but it would be cool to make the bottlecaps into a staggered set, maybe like 8.5 up front or stock 8 and some 9 or 10's in the back. Would use spacers and do some fender work obviously for the 10's out back

Just let me know if it is possible or not so I can put this dream to rest or act on it.

Also any shop recomendations for this kind of work would be greatly appreciated too.

    Thanks!

    Hello,
Your looking at $235.00 per wheel to add from 1 to 3 inches to the inside of those wheels.
Two to three week turn around time right now.
    Thank you
    James

Okay, thanks for the response James.

What is the finished product going to look like, it is going to look clean?

      Is there any structural concerns?
I only ask because these wheels might be used on a road course a few times.

Haha that would be sooo sick. I don't have super machine skills or access though, so it would be tough to do that. Thanks for the link though!

But it's the rim that he's interested in widening. I'm usually with you on the wheels/rimz thing, but here I believe it's appropriate. somewhere on teh webz is a guy that has made a set of bottlecaps into a 3piece, he had an industrial machine shop cut the barrel and lip off and then drill it so he could bolt aftermarket lips/barrels. dopeness followed.

                edit: found 'em
If it has to do with wheels, tires or brakes it goes here. 'Nuff said.

                Like I said, dopeness.

Damn Hillbilly those are sick, and yes it is the rim I am interested in widening. I am actually just looking to get the rear rims widened to 10" so I can have a staggered set with 16x8" up front and 16x10" in the back. They are the bottlecaps that came on the w124's stock also. I forget which chassis they came 16x8" stock on but its the same style. They just look clean with stretched tires.

Thanks for the input though everyone!

Inner/outer lip/barrel. Rim is the outermost edge of the lip/barrel which is the tire bead.

Sorry bout that, I am looking to get the barrel widened as they are one piece wheels.

Do you have any suggestions on where I could get this done for a good price?

Are they steel or aluminum alloy? I would say a good welder would be your best bet.

I'm pretty sure they are aluminum alloy, but I could be wrong. They don't feel heavy enough to be steel though. I'm really just looking to get the rears widened 2 inches, but I just want some quality work. Don't want to have any issues later on.

Widened 2 inches on the inner side? You're still going to have to run spacers if that's the case.
