I have a thread with my BBS LM refinish but I figured I would post it in here as well. I sold the Audi and really don't know if I'll have a car for these anytime soon so I'm considering selling them. It will be tough though.

I bought the wheels used and they weren't in the best shape.

I took them apart and polished the lips. First I chemically stripped them then hand polished each one. Each lip took about 6 hours from start to finish.

    lips polished

Then it was time to start on the faces. I decided to do a thorough sandblast and clear coat them. I thought this would be a neat finish and be pretty unique. One of my good friends has his own sandblast cabinet, power coat gun/oven, compressor, etc. so I did them over at his place. Each face took around 4 hours of thorough sandblasting to completely strip everything evenly. It was a huge PITA. We then powder coated them with 40% clear.

Here's one sandblasted without clear coat vs one that was cleared and cured. The clear definitely darkened them up a bit.

    All 4 done.

    Closeup of the finish

    Cleaned up all 80 bolts

    Started putting them back together.

Had my friend mount and balance the tires.

    Then mounted up

My first attempt at refinishing 3 piece wheels - props to Mike36 for stripping the chrome and polishing the lips for me.

This is how I bought them, fairly major pitting in the chrome on the lips

All the chrome stripped off faces and lips

    Polished lips and bare faces

Fresh out of powdercoating, color is Sunken Treasure

After final assembly. Wheels are double staggered 17x8.5 and 18x9.5
    17"

    18"

    17" and 18"

Really nice! I love the logos. Do You happen to have one OEM half height hex? I have seven of them and I'm short one to complete the other set.

Just finished these BBS RS 001's.

picked up last year looking like this:

Refinished using all original parts (lips, bolts, barrels, etc). Sourced waffles and OE half caps.

Rebuilt once again this past winter. Bigger lips, chrome bolts, polished hex caps, tiny tires:

Ready to go on the car
