  • Fitment Help - Rim protector hits arch

    Hi,

So I fitted a set of MK Motorsport alloys to me E60

    20x9 et15 225/35
    20x10.5 et22 255/30

I've put 12mm spacers on the front, maxxed the standard camber and got it pretty much where I want it with scrubbing only on really harsh bumps.

The rears I put a 15mm spacer and they sat perfect! On compression however the tyre clears but its the rim protector that catches. I removed the spacers and it all clears but there's still not a whole bunch of room! There is maybe a touch more camber to be had but not much more, but even if there was, to dial in that much camber to clear will mean the top of the wheel with have to tip in anyway!

How do you boys do it? Is it just a consequence of having small profiles???

I tried fitting these same wheels on my M3 and they looked great but again to get that nice look where the rim just pokes it would hit the arch on the rim protector. I'm waiting on new wheels for the M3 that are more aggressive but 18s, just hope they'll fit!

Both the lips have been rolled on both cars at the back. They're not flushed just rolled back still leaving 10mm of lip maybe???

    Any advice appreciated.

lol Did it ever then start hitting the rim?

I'm not worried about the rim protector but it keeps taking my paint off! Don't want rust setting in!

                ^^^ wt??

People run far more poke than I'm trying to get - do they just run the suspension so stiff it doesn't move??

There is that. 225 on 9 and 255 on 10.5 isn't a huge amount of stretch, and more stretch will pull that part of the tire in further. Different tires have sidewalls that are shaped differently - my Neo Gens, for example, basically have no rim protector, which simplifies things somewhat.

You might want to consider rolling those fenders until the fender lip is completely flat. Any thickness there will obviously affect clearance.

                    Thank you, useful advice!

Car is in for alignment tomorrow so once toe is sorted I'll have a much better idea and can try a few different spacers and go from there.

So been looking at this considerably more. Ive fitted new wheels and tyres to the M3 and they dont have the rim protector, fitment is fine. So on the E60 I'll replace the tyres to some without the rim protector and all will be right in the world again! However, the tyres are still like new so silly to just change out now, but how about taking a blade and running it around the rim protector to half its size say? A little haircut? Its only a thick bead of rubber afterall right??
