  • Riddle me this???

Whats the point in resting a quarter or fender between the wheel lip and tire? Is there some history behind this?
I ask because in doing this the quest ro 'ride' as low as possible is negated. You have to lift the car enough when driving to allow for required suspension travel.
Why not just tuck with mm's to spare so you can still ride low?
Not trying to start any nonsense. Just looking for an explanation or some background.

The people that stance like that are on air. They sit down on the poke when still. As for the history, I am not sure. But to get the bags to set down on the wheel without bending anything and get the offset just right to do it. Does take work.

Ok. It's just personal preference. I personally just don't get it.
I think this might be where the static vs. bagged nonsense comes from. The static guys might not realize you can ride low on bags too.
I do it everyday along with alot of others. I personally like to ride low and park lower.

Edit (2 pic) - just for illustration:

        Poke "rides" high:

        Tuck "rides" low:

Here's my old fitment with pretty soft springs, I just had the angles right, with higher rates I could have had that right down in there but never got round to it. Low wise I would rather have an e46 poking and a little higher as it makes them look like they have reverse rake when they're tucking rim out back IMO. Sounds like you want to be as low as possible so tucking for you seems to be the way forward and that's cool.

But yeah, not all 'stance' is the same and it shouldn't be, it should all be personal preference and should vary car to car imo. Tucking, poking, height or whatever is up to the owner

I don't like tuck and sunk in wheels. The look comes from older VW stances of stretched tires and poked wheels (pre-stance craze, before 2008/2009).

yeah i think that it's 100% personality, i prefer the poke, and i'm riding static every day with less than 5mm "gap" between the wheel and the fender...

and probably most of the people does know that you can roll with air even lower than the static, but the most funny thing for me is when i see laying frame when parked, and after that 4 fingers gap when rolling... it's ridiculous

Just so I understand correctly - you're suspension travels less than 5mm?
Or it does travel more but you're camber arc allows poke at that height and as it comes up it just clears the inner quarter?

sometimes the wheel hit the fender... so probably my suspension travels less than 10mm for sure...

From what I gather, its simply the epitome of pulling off a 'stance'. No specific story or history, I saw it once a long time ago in a PVW and was like, "holly hell, that guy put a lot of effort into making his car sit like that".

I've always like the way poke looks more than tuck. This is purely my opinion, but I feel that getting the proper poke, or getting the fender to rest in between the lip and tire, is the epitome of stance. Otherwise the car is just lowered. That is only one half of the equation.

Also want to ad that nice, 'flush' wheel fitment also creates a stance feel.

                              what he said above.

                              poke > tuck
