I have read some of what you guys are saying and ride height is a big deal in VA, more so for lifted trucks though. I have friends in NC that have tried to drive into VA from NC with trucks that are lifted over the VA limit and have been impounded and had to be trailered back to NC.

On another note, I live in VA and my cars are registered in FL. I recently got a ticket here in VA for window tint because the cop knew the FL tint laws and mine were way darker than the legal limit in FL. I went to court and got it dropped because I was not in the state where my car was registered.

Bottom line is, cops will give you tickets or tow your car for whatever they want. Whether you want to fight it in court or not is the difference. The cops don't care what argument you make, but the judge might see it differently.

I've fought every ticket I've ever gotten, gotten half dismissed and the other half I paid significantly less than what the original ticket stated.
Also I found out about halfway through that you should always right a note with the ticket, and I've gotten about half of those thrown out without me even having to do anything.

This is ridiculous. The law is the law. But cop is still a COP. Which means their all assholes. You cant expect to drive a POS around or run circles around a cop and think hes not going to ticket you or tow your shit. Regardless of emissions or anything else, if you have out of state plates doesn't mean your going get a FREE PASS. If you get pulled over, well consider yourself already fucked. And if your car is really modded, then know he's going fucked with you. The only way around this is to not get caught. PERIOD. Because we all know by now, that if a cop wants to write you a ticket or tow your car he will do so regardless of your STORY!

Its the same principle as being able to carry a concealed firearm. Just because you can do it in TX doesn't mean you can do it in CA. Even if you have a perfectly good license that states you can do so in the state of TX. But you better know that if you cross that state line with that gun, your going be assed out! Because different states have different laws. So dont expect a free pass.

And FYI most of the people at the DMV are dumb asses, thats why they work there. I wouldn't take what they say as " your good". Cause a cop doesn't give a two shits. He'll tow your car just cause he thinks your ugly if he really wanted too.

Tell a cop you called the DMV before entering the state and got clearance to drive and they're gonna let you go unless of course you're being a jackass.

I've been watching this thread and not commenting much but I just wanted to say thats a bit of a generalization. If you talk back to cops in Boston, even when your 100% correct, its absolutely fucks you over. Especially if they are state police not local. There is literally no good that can come from it. I used to argue and now I pay $3000 a year for secondary coverage on a 10 year old car. You guys may have some leniance in the south but here, if your right, you fight it in court not with the officer.
