Big metal plate the prevents the oil pan from getting smashed.

where did you buy the skidplate from?
You can get the skidplate from ejnight here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...hlight=ejnight

      (and lose skid plate )
I haven't found a 17" 4x100 wheel with a fat lip that I want to run, the ones that make the shortlist are all 5x120.

The skidplate stays on. I would have destroyed the oil pan the first day I put on the Borbet's without it. The wheelgap I'll tweak out after I get an alignment done tomorrow as I have to adjust the camber settings.

And thanks for the kind words everyone.

no marks on that pan would have touched the pan. the problem is people put that crappy plate and just because it touches little things ( due to it hanging so low) they think its stopping the oil pan from breaking. any point in the ground that would blow your pan will blow it whether you have that little plate on or not.

Not true. I hit some nasty dips and rises when I had my skidplate that would have definitely destroyed my oil pan. But it sat like .5" from the ground and just scraped on every little thing on the road so I just took it off and raised the engine. Although I think I may have cracked the oil pan, as I have quite a substantial oil leak now.

                        offcourse the plate protects.
It's like putting an egg inside a helmet and drop it on the floor..the egg does not get crushed, but if you remove the helmet it will crush like hell.

I don't think some offroad cars comes with a skidplate just for fun.

no shit some plates do protect. that plate (correct me if im wrong) is the raceskidz plate. which bolts to flimsy sheet metal that bends easily. its been proven you can still blow out a pan with that plate. any expierence from other cars with different plates is irrelevant. im only talking about that specific plate on e30's.

okay, but it protects either you want it or not. Some plates may protect better than raceskidz..I don't know. I was planning to order that plate, but now I'm not so sure about it anymore.
