Your car is a BEAST! It looks so good with those wheels. The engine sounds delightful as well! Nicely done.

Those are great looking Jeremy. I can't wait to get the car on the road and then rip down for paint this summer.

Playing around with some Aluminum bits next. Had to make some caps for the heads to delete the secondary air cross-over pipe.

Then made some custom tanks for the power steering reservoir and coolant tank. The tanks are made from 4 inch aluminum pipe with hand spun ends. The coolant tank has a 3/4 bard welded on the bottom and a 1/4 inch barb up top, with a billet rad cap filler neck.
The Power steering reservoir has a -10an fitting welded in the center of the bottom and a -6an fitting on the side. I will make these to order if anyone is interested for $150.

Wow, this is going to be great. There used to be a flood of e30's on this site, but the bmw crowd has really died down in the last few years. Glad to see another well built car.

The car in this thread belongs to me and Jeremy is doing the complete engine swap. He is very meticulous and thorough is his work and so glad I decided to use him instead of tackling the project myself. I would be WAY behind if that was the case.

Anyways, attached are a couple of pictures of my inspiration color (L380) and the color scheme I am going to use (turquoise on Imola) on the car. The car now is Bronzit on Cardinal. As Jeremy mentioned, I am doing a complete Euro Mtech1 car with this build and using Schmidt TH Line wheels.

The engine swap is just about complete and then I will get the car back. I will teat down the car and get ready for paint, full suspension refresh, etc.

Thanks for putting this page together Jeremy!

The next custom parts I had to modify is he shifter assembly. The factory E39 shifter is much to long, so the best solution is the cut down and weld the pieces shorter. Below is the chopped and welded shift carrier.

The shifter selector rod also cut down, sleeved and welded. Its a short lil guy

Assembled on the car, the shifter is nice and centered in the shifter hole.

Thanks! I see each project as a confidence builder, with the competition of each one I go a few steps further on the next.

The next round of photos are the custom bits I had to make for the swap. Below is the steering shaft I made next to the original. I used two e36 shafts cut in half and TIG welded together at the proper length. I used the same set up on my LS6 E36 with out problem. The reason the stock shaft won't work is due to clearance with the exhaust manifold. E46 steering shafts modified in a similar way will give even more clearance than the e36 shafts.

Yes, it fits pretty well. The motor is much wider so frame rail clearance is close. but plenty of room in front.

Here is the Mishimoto Radiator for Z3M mounted in the car. I usually like Mshimoto's quality. but I had issues with the steam pipe fitting being stripped out. They should definitely just weld the fitting on instead of trying to thread 16 gauge aluminum

For the Radiator hoses I found that E36 Hoses worked best, trimmed to fit of course

Installed the X5 oil filter housing, using the modified factory mount. The X5 OFH was required because the OEM E39 OFH runs through the factory Engine mount arm. Those have been ditched for the Gargistic Engine Mount Arms

Getting the M62tu ready for its new home, Picked up a low mileage M5 gear box to put behind it. The Getrag 420g in the 540i is the exact same as the M5 box. I got m5 box before the donor car, so I figure what's the harm in splitting the motor and tranny and seeing what the clutch looked like and putting the M5 Box on.

Swapped out the E39 exhaust manifolds for the X5 catless manifolds

Got the motor all prepped and dumped it in the new engine bay

Preparing the engine bay for the new motor. The owner wanted the bay color matched to the future color of the rest of the car. He chose Volkswagen L380 green which I though was heresy at first but it grew on me. I used PPG's Omni line on the engine bay, surprised that I covered as well as it did. I don't typically like spraying Omni. the rest of the car will be sprayed in Deltron.

Shaved the bay of unnecessary brackets and stripped out much of the factory seam sealer to give it a cleaner look.

Primed and getting ready to paint. Wishing I had taken more pictures of the process.
