  • Minty 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0T GT

    Herro,

I guess it's time to make a build thread somewhere so I can keep track of my progress.

It all started when I got my first car, a 2008 Honda accord sedan - automatic. Getting into the scene was hard as I had no tools, no resources and no knowledge of anything. I progressed only as far as lowering springs and plastidip wheels

Then in 2014, my mom was moving back to my home town; it was my time to shine. I've always wanted a Manual car - either coupe or hatchback, didn't have big dreams for it, only wheels/coil/lip combo to you know... stance it.

At first, I was looking into the $5,000 range so pretty much 8th gen civic coupes, first gen mazda 3 hatch, rsx, celica. Then my mom offered to chip in by matching my budget, at this point now it was 8th gen civic Si's, 05+ rsx-s, 2nd gen Mazda 3(speed was a dream but too expensive), older wrx. The Vancouver car scene was huge so any sign of a good deal was snatched up pretty fast.

The 2 car's I was initially interested in - almost ending up buying. 2006 rsx-s had full bolt-on's on lowered springs, stock wheels, 180,000km/110,000miles. My brother convinced my mom to not let me buy it because he thought paying $10,000 for a car with 180,000km was stupid, she agreed, I was sad. The second car was a stock low milage 2010 Mazda 3 hatch GS 6speed for $11,000. This was the car that I almost bought, I really liked it and it had all the features I was looking for at a low price.

Then I had epiphany, I thought "FUCK THIS SHIT IM BUYING A SPORTS CAR". I decided to get a loan and spend a little extra to satisfy my soul. I was now in the market for $15,000 car range, big bump up from original budget. I went on craigslist and threw lowballs at every ad I saw until someone "considered" Btw I'm Asian

AND this is where it began; summer 2014, I picked up my White 2010 Genesis coupe 2.0T GT(this trim includes the luxury of premium's sunroof, Infinity sound system, sunroof and R-specs brembo brakes, HID headlamp, torsen LSD and black/red interior) I've only seen 2 other in this combo. I had no idea what the frick these were until the day I picked it up and was like WOWOWOW BREMBO BRAKES? WOWOWOW. Funny thing, the owner was a service advisor at a dealership and the way we made the deal was that he sold the car to the dealership so I can finance it through them... So basically I got a Certified Pre-own car(warranty offer declined by me) for less than all the other Genesis Coupes in the area.

I was a broke University student working 20hr's a week, how I pulled this off? I don't know, when I paid the downpayment I had less than $50 in my bank account. But nothing from 2014-2015 was really spectacular, ahem broke university student, it wasn't until 2016 when I finally broke free of the broke life and got my current job thats allowed me to do everything here.

I'll start with a mod list, everything on this list was either made or installed by me. Too poor to pay for services huhuhuuu

Nice man, I just sold my mirabeau blue 2.0t. All of those engine mods don't mean shit without a tune on it though, mine was hovering at the 240rwhp mark with stock injectors at about 90% duty cycle. Glad to see you've got some good supporting mods though. Does your single rest on the diffuser? Mine did and it rattled a ton inside the car

      2014

First half of the year was pretty boring. I did what came first naturally, plastidipped the wheel , bought Garageline spacers for the front and rear 25/20mm. Lowered it on eibach pro kit springs and relocated the plate to the side... with a couple holes and zip ties. Also put yellow film over the fog covers

Soon after that, I ended up buying a set of rh j5 pro's that I didn't really use that much. I initially test fit them and put them away after that, mainly because it needed to be repainted.

She popped the question and I said yes, I would love to pick my christmas present.

At the end of the year, I decided to get an AEM Front mount Intercooler, and I haven't even installed it yet... 2 years later

        2015

Experimented a lot with AutoX this year

I decided to repaint the wheels, so I stripped all the gunky plastidip off and used real paint this time. I ended up painting them an Anodized purple.

Wanted more woosh than plosshh so I bought a Turbo SX BOV

Didn't like to boring engine bay so I painted some stuff in there, as well added a custom made intake with K&N filter and Injen intercooler piping.

Megan racing downpipe + midpipe + aem axle back exhaust. Notice the genesis badge

Painted those j5 pro's white and mounted it for the summer

Got an NRG bucket seat for AutoX

Finally got the chance to swoop up a good deal on Megan Racing SS Coilovers, car sat a little lower with out adjustments

          2016

Winter - I got bored with spring low height so I almost maxed out my stock wheels with winter tires.

Test fit the j5's again to see how they would sit low.

Learned to weld at work, first project was to weld my sliding brackets into a fixed position

Got bored with everyone's quad tip, so made my own single exit exhaust

Got a BBM Rear trunk Spoiler

          Evo k2 lip

A lot of time spent like this

How it sat for the next few months.

I do have a tune though. It hovers just slightly, I wrapped an exhaust gasket along the end panel behind the bumper incase It hits.

Noice mane, sorry didn't see it. How is SFR's tune and launch control? The plastic on the diffuser is pretty tough.

Is yours an early 2010 with the stretched fuel hose or a late 2010?

Can't wait to see more of it.
