Once again my love for odd Honda's has crippled my bank account

After selling my Acty I decided Kei cars weren't very great for Canadian roads, or any major highway for that matter... So I began my hunt for a full sized vehicle that would fill the vans duties, as well as my civic. I quickly fell under the spell of the Honda S-MX. WTF is a Honda S-MX? Well it's a Japanese only market MPV that is best explained by Jalopnik:
    http://jalopnik.com/honda-once-made-...e-i-1740050375

I started searching through the Japanese auction houses till I found the perfect unit; matching all my criteria I quickly placed a bid on it

Unfortunately the auction only included 2 pictures and a small report

And then I waited........... For 4 months. The unit I had chosen had a September 2001 first registration date, meaning I would have to wait till September for it to legally enter the country. I figured it was worth it for such a clean, low mileage unit.... But it was agonizing. Finally the day came and I picked up the car in the port at Vancouver. Luckily the car was just as it was represented on auction.

I was very set to get a 4 seater as it came with the legendary S-MXy time bench seats You can not go wrong with two rows of benche that configure and flip to your hearts content.

Also peep the "nightstand" as it's referred to by Honda

Then I did what any normal person would do, Drive a car they've bought sight unseen 1000km through the mountains back home.

Surprisingly it made the trip without one single hiccup. all that she asked for was new wiper blades and a bit of fuel.

    I'll post more shortly!

    This looks so cool.

Almost makes you think you can sleep in it.

How are those guys from B-PRO for importing? I saw some cars I might be interested in, but they just kind of showed up on the scene and I don't know too much about them

Whatever path you take to get to your automotive nirvana is the right path, everyone’s path is different. If more people liked cars because they are cars—not because they are a way to get attention or to way to be better than someone else—then I think the automotive world would be a better place. -benmassey

Brian at B-pro is excellent. Little slow on communication at times but that's a given with his huge customer base.

This one has a fwd B20b. They were also offered in 4wd with the base model trim. All of them automatic though

here's a pic of the bay with the massive tumor of an airbox

You can definitely sleep in it! I'm 6'2" and I can lay down and stretch without much more than my wrists overhanging.

Plans are to make it into a nicer looking daily/ travel rig. Would love to take it on some cross-America road trips and do some sightseeing.

After getting the rig home and having it passed out of province inspection it was time to fix my plate! I'm quite fond of the stupid pun

since I had 4 months of waiting for the car to ship I managed to buy a few parts. First off was the grill. mine had easily the worst oem grill from factory

                  easy fix!

Next was height. A cheap set of Tein coilovers had come across the auctions so I nabbed them as well.

Also been working on a little shaved valvecover project

And a little size comparison with the civic in full wintermode

It's roughly inches shorter but seems absolutely massive inside.

                  till next time gents!

Sounds to me like you could pretty easily make more hp then if you went w/ a b16 head on that b20b. Unfortunately, packaging a turbo seems near impossible in that car.

                        AT LEAST IT'S NOT A D-SERIES!

I like what you're doing with this. And I think I will give them a call or at least shoot them an email. This would be my first time importing a vehicle so I am skeptical about everything

Mega delayed update time, better than never I guess.

I decided the best thing to do to the car was drill holes in the roof

It's an incredibly painful experience to do yourself, especially if your the type to get worried about screwing it up. I didn't like the factory available bars at all, and the universal clamp style (thule style) bars left a lot to be desired and could wreck the paint, so I decided the custom install Yakima would be the ticket.

after a few stressful hours I had a functional rack

And a few successful test runs later

Eventually upgraded to a full suspension Santa Cruz, which just so happened to match

Eventually tracked down the factory privacy shades! should be great for overnighting in the toaster.

I had bought some "stainless steel" license plate hardware from Canadian Tire, but they didn't hold up so well. Ended up replacing them with some Password Jdm fender washers.

And the best for last, Ended up scoring some Volk GT-P wheels off japan yahoo. still deciding on how to refinish them.

This thing has a p8r head right? If so, that's the best flowing non v-tec B series head out there. Shave the head and add a thinner head gasket to bump the compression up and you'll get some pretty nice gains. There are also quite a lot of cam options for these, or you could regrind the stock ones as these engines were meant for good fuel economy on crap gas(low lift/duration cams, low CR). Best of luck, when I was in high school I helped build up a 150fwhp p8r high comp block integra and it was definitely the most satisfying build I've ever been a part of.

Does this thing use the standard B series intake mani setup and exhaust mani?
