  • E36 328 Techno Violet

This is copied from another forum so may read a bit weirdly at first!

After selling my E46 M3 just over a week ago now I was on the hunt for a tidy E36 328.
A few cars popped up that I liked and I was pretty set on one car but the seller dropped out.
So the next night I went and viewed this one and left a deposit.

It's on just under 108k, light grey leather in Techno Violet.
I think the owner before the person ~I got it from is on here.

The car already has HSD coilovers, M50 manifold, big bore throttle body, Dave F induction kit and a remap.
The wheels were recently refurbished and had Michelin PS2's all round.

I've since fitted black front grills and a Milltek cat back exhaust.

I'm also collecting bits to fit amber lights all round.

Future plans are spacers, possibly wheels, a good detail inside and out and to rewire all of the speakers.

Here's the only pics I have at the moment.

Earlier in the week I managed to re wire all of the speakers, tidy everything up, mount the speakers properly and get them amped.
It took quite a while as the previous attempt was pretty messy, but it's all nice and neat and everything is where it should be, sounds a million times better as well!

I had to take the glove box out to get to the previous wiring, the tweeters were hot glued to the A pillar so I moved them into the doorcards.

Then I ran the speaker cable through the door loom to keep them hidden which took a while!

The RCA's and remote cable were run through the centre console them over the carpet, so I ran the cables under the carpet, what a pain that was!
And an extra set of RCA's so I can put a sub in.
All cables had connectors crimped, soldered and heat shrink put on so it all looks neat and tidy

Yesterday I spent the day giving the car a good clean, the paints not particularly good, it's been repainted at some point and the prep work was pretty poor.
It looks like it was sanded with 40 grit and painted straight over!
There's quite a few scratches all around, I managed to make them less noticeable with the polisher but they were too deep to get rid of completely.
The plastics were all grey so I treated them and the engine bay with some Auto Finesse Revive which has worked really well.
Unfortunately I ran out of time before being able to seal the paint but managed to seal the windows with Carbon Collective Platinum Glass.

All in all it looks much better and the Purple has really come out which I was pleased with as it looked a bit dull before.

Over Christmas I got a bit more done to the car.
I fitted my Grip Royal steering wheel.

Got some new exhaust rubbers fitted but the Milltek is still sitting a bit low and not straight, not sure what to do about that.

Gave the car a wash and sealed the paint and glass with Carbon Collective Platinum paint and glass.

    Fitted amber lights all round.
And spaced the wheels by 20mm front and back.

I picked up a set of Throwing stars last week, they were in decent condition but needed a freshen up so me and a mate sanded back the wheels and resprayed them Titanium Silver.
We left the stars as they were and they will be painted at a later date because I like the colour

I got them fitted last night and needed to lower the front about 40mm to close up the arch gap but it still needs to come down a bit more I think.
I'l probably space them 10mm at the front and 5mm at the back.

    Pics:

The car is pretty much where I want it now after only owning it three weeks or so.
Future plans will be to fix the passenger window motor, get it sitting right and drive it!

Lost my locking wheel nut key the other night, went to BMW Bishops Stortford and they were very helpful I had a new one for less than a tenner after 5 minutes of being there.

After sorting that out I lowered the front another 10mm, but I still think it needs to come down a bit more.

And that brings us up to date, I've had ti about a month now and I've done most of the bits I wanted to do!

Nice turn around! IMO, Techno Violet with ambers is a perfect combo...

Hey this is real clean man, hope I can get myself an E36 sometime in the future!

If you don't mind me asking though how come you got rid of the E46 M3 and did you have any mods on that?

If so some pics would be cool

Cheers everyone, Ilowered the front another 10mm last night and might do the same again tonight.
I also changed the amp for a Kenwood 4 channel amp, the one with the car was an ebay special I think!
              It sounds much better now.
Mehowski I sold the M3 because I'm looking to buy a house, and the M3 was in a different league for everything cost wise so it made sense to sell up and have a cheaper car I can do more with and still save, plus I ***** the SMG secretly but never wanted to admit it whilst I owned it!

The M3 was standard when I bought it, I changed the front wheels for 9's to have a square set up with 20mm spacers on the back, fitted HSD coilovers, decatted it, upgraded the speakers, changed the exhaust tips, CSL carbon diffuser, LED facelift rear lights, usual M3 mods really it looked pretty standard.

real nice car, and good job on tidying it up. throwing stars are awesome

to fix that exhaust box fitment you need to bring it to a tidy fabricator/exhaust place/yourself, up on a lift, cut the back box off the pipes entering its rear (I presume it is a twin system on a 6cyl.). then brace/jig the tips in the perfect desired position. don't be afraid to bend the hangers around a bit to get it to hang nicely. then refabricate the connection at the back.

it basically looks like the orientation of the box on the system when it was fabricated is not that good. no amount of rubbers will sort it.

I'm a fabricator and wonky exhaust boxes really annoy me!

                        good luck

                          Thanks everyone.
Minuki, yea they came up nice I'm really pleased with them!
On the milltek exhausts they use flat sheet metal for the hangers not metal bar so I can't bend them, but I am going to redill the holes and get it sitting better soon.

Not much to update, got some led bulbs for interior etc. and will be getting some HID's as the head lights are shocking.
The drivers side headlight lense has a big chip in it thanks to a stone, so I'll try and get a new pair at some point.

I gave the car a quick wash Sunday and swapped out the shitty amp for a Kenwood one.

Plans for now are to get the inner arches cleaned up and under sealed if need be, then attack everything under the car with a wire brush/ wheel and hammerite everything black

                              Not much to update recently.
Gave it a quick wash last night, ordered some HID's as the halogen bulbs are terrible.
Realigned my headlights and secured them properly, one was completely loose resulting in an indicator falling off!
I've also decided to go for some 10mm spacers for the front and 5mm spacers on the back.
It should be just enough to get the wheels sitting nearly flush with no scrubbing.

And a bonus pic from last night.
