• I'm doing it wrong - 04 WRX

So, I tried this once before. Lost the thread, found it, realized I knew nothing when I started it, lost again to forget my mistakes, started drinking more whiskey and tried again.

I bought this marvelous hunk of garbage in the summer of 2013ish. Probably paid too much and didnt look into how the car had been kept prior to my purchase.

Wheels were ok but had been plastidipped and tires were garbage. Upon driving it, found it rode like a wooden wagon. Turned out to be on Megan lowering springs and some mis-matched oem/kyb/unkown struts.

SO I DID THE ONLY SENSIBLE THING AND BOUGHT RACELANDS YUSSSS

    I know, I know.

They rode way way way better then the old sunk suspension and didnt destroy my wallet. Along with the ricelands I bought some adapters for the old wheels off my Z3. No clue what brand they really are but they sit at 17x8.5 and I was happy with that.

Got it close but the offest was all sorts of fucky with the adapters. Ended up maxing the front caster plates and getting some eibach crash bolts for the rear to get it close to right.

Painted the wheels white. Adjusted some shit. Got hammered and made some stencils to do digi camo on the already shity carbon fiber hood. Broke my foglight covers. Rednecked them together. Painted. At this point I was certain I was cool.

Now, my timleline may be a bit off here but at some point in this nonsense a buddy and I were playing around on the interstate and I mishifted before an exit, pegged the tach, and came to a rather sudden stop. Later came to find I hogged out my crank bearings, bent some valves, blew up the clutch blah blah blah.

    Started here.

WINNING (sortof) (jdm ej205 with around 24k I believe.)

Ended up having to swap all the usdm stuff I could to the new longblock and did a refresh. Painted the bay, tucked some things, cleaned it all up and got it running.

    Now WINNING

Since then the car has ran alright. Stock, mostly reliable and that good stuff but it only stayed that way cause I had the money to keep it running not really to build it.

Somewhere in there a friend convinced me to max these coils, roll some shit, add more camberz and be bout that life. Thats where the desire to make money then turn around and dump it into this pile.

    Previous to moving to Texas.

Took the digi paint off and did a rising sun on the hood for extra street cred. Swapped the carbo trunk for a good condition stock one. Did nothing for the longest time up until I raised her up and put it on a super sketchy trailer bound for Texas.

We made it with very little trouble and began the process of planning what will be happening. Immediately did fluids and filters, installed new Bosch boost and water temp gauges, sensor port, fixed the horn wiring and buttoned some stuff up. Plans now that I have capital and a bigger garage are building a bulletproof long block, new ancillaries, vf52, fmic, ebc, new clutch, coilpacks, injectors, respray for some panels and a tune.

I'll be back with more mediocraty.

really dig the "not exactly the typical wrb" look. not many wrb owners will fucking rivet plastic to their old fog covers and spray bomb a hood. +1 my man

Thanks all! Where I was from in Tennessee I was surrounded by a ton of Suabru purists. My car was always kindof frowned upon. I figure if its broke, fix it. Does it look great? Is it factory/oem/high dollar/mint or what have you? Maybe not, but it does function. I mean, its a car. Not made of gold, sees no lenghty garage time, driven all year rain or shine.

As far as STI brembos, I have looked into it and its on the list. Go faster, stop harder and all that. Really want to focus more on driveline/suspension/trans/cooling/brakes now rather than gussying up the interior/exterior or anything.

I did however need to polish my headlights so went ahead and blacked them out.

Sat and stared at the daunting task of cleaning the barn out to work on it

At some point I aquired some unpainted STI style fog covers

and some gratuitous valve gnarl where they kissed the piston ever so lightly

On a side note, have played around with the idea of fabbing a custom manifold, piping, shortening the shaft neck and SUPERCHARGING DIZ BITCH with an M90.

Even bought one for future mock up purposes on my old blown up motor. Maybe not the best 60 bones I ever spent but hey, why not?

Im hoping the supercharger idea goes through. I think it would be alot more fun that the turbo 2.0. Then again I went to the scrapyard down the road from me and SCORED!

                    ON THE CHEAP!
Garrett of an International, A/R 50 comp, A/R1.00 Twin Scroll turbine housing and very little to no shaft play

Started to break it down to clean it up and inspect it

This thing would be a lag monster. Fairly certain I just bought it for kicks. But, it may be an idea down the road.

Then we hit the antique place and scored this cool old pipe vice to add to the collection

Then came the actual car related junk. Took the front driver side off to measure for some hub centering rings between my adapters and the whatever wheels I have. (Just to feel more saferer) and found this...

                    [IMG] photo 20151211_0822021_zpskptigr1p.jpg[/IMG

FCUK. I guess I will be moving some wiring around.

To end it all, at the scrap yard, we found...
THE BASE TO AN ELECTRIC WHEEL CHAIR BOYEEE

Gonna toss some new batteries on this pantie dropper and drop a toilet on it.
                    Why?
                    For shits and giggles.

It has begun. With the problems mounting I decided to pull the motor and see what was up. Ended up on its last drive it jumped a tooth on the west side exhaust cam gear because the belt was so slack from age. Nothing really got damaged but there were somethings that just needed to get done.

                      Finished the new work benches

                      Ripped the tired bastard out.

Tore it down to make list of all the shit I needed to order past just the water pump and gates timing belt junk

Decided this needed to be cleaned up. Just havent gotten around to it.

And what to do about this ugly piece of garbage lol

Scrubbed the caked on grime off

Now I'm just waiting on parts to roll in.
