  • 2jz 300zx slicktop build

So I lately I've been itching to buy another z32 Slicktop that has a cleaner shell, and interior. My current z had some dents and need body work as well as an interior refresh. After doing the numbers I came to an estimate of around 5-6k to bring my z to where I want it to be looks wise if I was to keep the present slicktop.
2 weeks ago I pulled my motor and trans from the 93 which is 2jz swapped, so that I could go back through and tuck the bay to finally clean things up completely on the car. The Next week while I was at work I happen to be on auto trader just browsing and found a nice 94 slicktop with 114k miles on the dash. I requested recent photos of the car and it's current state. The PO stated the clutch had gone to the floor and the car had a fuel leak somewhere in the engine bay, but the car had mint interior, and a recent paint job to go with the addition of a JSPEC front end. I spoke it over with the wife and got the green light to go get the car with the plan to getting it running, check everything over and then swapp it's drive train in to my old slicktop. I will put my old slicktop up for sale as a stock na. Since the motor and trans for the 2jz are already out I will do a refresh on the motor and drop everything in when my new twin disc clutch gets in.

I will need to return the slave cylinder and brake fluid I bought as I listen to the PO before testing it my self and realized there was nothing wrong with the clutch SMH.

    On to the pics.
engine bay was filthy, to say the least. I still need to finish pulling the wires from some horrible stereo install. has to be at least 10lbs of wire.

Reason the car had a rough idle and sputtering

Amazing what a 10 mins wash can do. Need to take firm bush to the wheels as the brake dust is caked on.

      Now for today's work.
first had to wash the wife's car and my car before anything...

Now that is over on to the real work.

Ugh got to love the old stock suspension bolts.

      Now for replacements

Jspecs tails installed, Rear quarter panels rolled and slightly pulled, exhuast on the 93 removed.
Tomorrow I will tackle swapping over the front suspension and brakes, if I have enough time I will as well remove all the remaining fuel lines and hard wear from the 93. Local guy came by and put down a deposit on the 94s na motor for his car so end of the week I will start pulling that out.

Well back to the nitty gritty, decided I want the 93 shell closer to being out the door. So to night I went a head and swap over the front suspension and brakes...

Front struts out, still in pretty good shape by the looks. Car did ride decently smooth on them for the 3 days I drove it,

a lil bit of oxidation on the calipers but over all not bad/

Newer style SRT8 4 pot caliper bracket locked down.

Steel braid stop tech lines, 370z rotors, and SRT8 jeep calipers bolted up

front Power trix Ultra Lights with swift springs installed

And she is finally on the ground again

        Enkie NT-03 18x10.5 Et 30 on all 4 corners. rears RA1 Toyos 275s.

almost ready to go to a new home.

Now just waiting on my motor mount bushings...Clutch master 850 series twin disk with a sprung hub, clutch master hydraulic throw out bearings, and drift motion steEl lines.
Fun times are soon to come. will take my bell housing to get check out tomorrow. will finish prepping the shell in the afternoon, and maybe this weekend drop the motor and trans in.

Well I had some time today so I went through and sanded down areas with imperfections in the engine bay, I liked the look of a semi flat black and decided to do the whole engine bay in it. Looks very clean IMO.
I also got the wiring specialties harness installed or at least ran in to the car. I wanted to have the wires as best hidden as possible this go round so I ran part of the harness down the frame rail and will sort out the rest when I figure out what sensors i will be keeping.
And yes I had to post some pix of the new tool box. makes keeping things together so much easier.

Well got a lil motor work done today or onight rather.
When you use a hydraulic throw out bearing it must be shimmed to around 1/8 of an in of play for proper use. This is a fun task(sarcasm) as one must install and uninstall the trans until you have the correct number of shims. I have no idea how but I got it right on the first try, using only using 3 shims...
Freed mounts are now installed and just need to reseal the oil pan and I will drop the motor back in to the car.

AND she is in, finally feels like I'm making some real progress now, motor is in, transmission is bolted up everything is center and lines up as it should.

Well for right now, I'm just making sure everything fits with the new mounts. They have changed alot in engine bay.
So I've been kinda out of it lately since going to the er a few weeks ago. Finally I got off my butt and said I need this beast up and running this weekend so I can clean up the garage.
Fuel system installed now using push lock hoses and fittings from redhorse racing and vibrant lines.

Harness still being tucked away, having choosen where I am going to the Fuse box yet. I've thought about moving it in to the car but not sure I feel like dealing with the wiring.

Finally Put the intercooler piping back in to the car to mount up new brackets for the intercooler.

Tomorrow will be nothing but wiring. Need to run my battery relocation wires, Fuel pump harness, and gauges.

Well last night was a huge pain in the ass. So Sunday I went to finally start the car and the motor locked up. Wouldn't turn over at all. So when I got off I pulled the motor and trans thinking I dropped something in the motor or my trans was binding on something. Pull everything off and it turns out the fly wheel bolts drift motion sent me with my twin disk were to long and where hitting the girdle of my block. Such a pain in the ass for something that should have never happened. Any Ways hopefully I will have the motor sealed back up and ready to go back in tonight and start up Thursday.
on the plus side going from completely together to out the car only took an 1hour lol...

                  Fast foward another day

everything is back in, the clutch is bled, brakes bled, and harness back in the only issue now is for some reason the ecu isn't sending a ground single/pulse to the injectors. I assumed the crank sensor failed but the ecu is reading RPM as the motor cranks over and I am getting spark.

Garage is finally looking like a garage again nor more mess. still have alot to clean out.
