Haven't been here in a while, finally got a car I have wanted for a while and throught I'd share, this is only the beginning, I have big plans for it.

Anyway it's a 2003 Evolution VIII, at first I wanted an IX but after looking around for a while I actually started to prefer the VIII front end anyway, and when it's all finished so much of the car will be changed it doesn't matter anyway! It's my only car, gets driven every day so it's not going to be too crazy, engine mods are going to be restricted to bolt ons for the moment. I may open it up later but we will see.

When I got the car it had:

    IX rear bar + tails
    BC coilovers
    Powdercoated Evo 7 wheels
    Voltex style rear diffuser
    Busted ass front lip
    Side skirt extensions
    Hedgehog roof ornament
    HKS zutututu BOV :???:

The car had a few things that needed sorting out, the BOV still hasn't been replaced but is high on the list, will just be going back to a stock VIII or MR BOV. The front lip was cracked and shitty, tyres had camber wear etc etc.. Here it is when I first got it. You can see where the front lip has been bounced off a speed hump.

The first thing I did was get roof racks because I carry my bike everywhere, not for USDM scene points, I think it looks better without it..

Then I just drove it around lots, the clutch was facked so I replaced it with an Exedy HD clutch, my get upgraded in the future but it's doing the job for the moment.

Then it was time to start getting some goodies together, I got some cool white boxes sitting in my bedroom. 18x9.5 +15

and I got a set of IX headlights and did a didgy fix of the front lip with a little paint and a sticker, until I get a new one at least, I am still hesitant of dropping much coin on something that will no doubt get hammered.

That's it for the moment, this will get updated very soon as I'll be putting the RPF1's on ASAP with some new rubber. Still have a huge list of stuff to do, not sure whether the roof racks will stay on yet but we'll see. BOV needs to be changed asap. Dunno why it was done in the first place, the Evo responds horribly to it, wants to stall all the time and you can hear the compressor surge, some people are silly. I am also removing the rear diffuser and building one myself, was never a fan of the Voltex style diffuser anyway.

    Updates soon!

Then I got my wheels on, also pulled the VIII headlights apart and painted the shrouds gloss black, they are in better condition than the IX lights were and I also blacked out the parker lights which I prefer. Tyres are in 235/40 for the moment but when I get around to doing guard work I will go to a 255 or 265.

Few pictures of the interior colour change. So happy I went through with this, makes the interior feel so much better. Wasn't a fan of the blue on the doors and seats at all. Now it's all black.

Pulling everything out and cleaning up all the shit left behind by the previous owner..

Masking and applying the fabric dye, took my time here to make sure it was neat, made the final product look factory.

All done and back in the car, if anybody wants any tips on doing this there's a few tricks I used to get it to turn out the way I wanted. Feel free to ask.

Also keep in mind I have no garage or outdoor space at all, all the work I do myself is done on the side of a kinda busy street in Sydney. The things we do for cars...

Few things have been done throughout that I failed to mention like getting rid of that old diffuser, I'll be making my own splitter and diffuser when I have access to some more work space. I have bought a bunch of suede to recover the headliner and pillars myself so I'll get onto that this weekend. The shit HKS bov has been replaced with a stock 8 bov until I can source a Turbosmart plumb back or a 8MR unit.. That's it so far, still plenty to do. Trying to break the traditional Evo mould a bit with some upcoming mods, custom bodywork and a few other unique touches.

Thanks dudes, all these pics are from an iphone so that's why there's nothing great yet. Picking up a DSLR this week so i'll have some way better photos soon.

Out of curiosity, if I was chasing something similar to a rocket bunny ducktail spoiler, what kinda car would have a similar boot shape so i can minimise the amount of work to get it to fit an Evo? I was thinking maybe the E36 rocket bunny spoiler might be close but I don't know how the widths would match up..

Hey, i'm in the same situation with the seats on my subaru. I **** the blue. What type of dye did you use to change it to black? And did you apply it in light coats or heavy coats? Also i really like this Evo. I woulda bought one instead of my subie if i woulda found one in decent condition hahaha

Thanks mate, the blue on my seats was a little faded and now they look nearly new again, same with the rest of the interior. I used dupli-colour dye in an aerosol can. Just over two cans for good coverage and I did the front seats, rear seats and all four door trims. Couple of tips, get some baby wipes or dryer sheets and wipe them down once they are dry, this will dampen the material slightly and soften it up as well as take some of the smell out of them. Other than that it's probably one of my favourite mods so far, if I didn't tell you it had been done you wouldn't even notice and you definitely wouldn't think it came out of an aerosol can.

Not sure if youve seen but there are some evo x ducktail spoilers on ebay for pretty cheap. Might be easy to modify if your good at body work.

Cheers guys, yeah seen the X ducktail but I'm actually chasing something a little more like the rocket bunny unit.. I think it's going to be a complete custom job but that's ok because it will be unique to my car.. PassionGarage small world man, I'm just near Newtown, what do you drive? I'll keep an eye out, just followed your IG too haha..
