Decided to stray away from the rust / chalboard paint idea. Didn't go very far with it so it's all easily reversible. Looking at the aero garbage I've thrown at the car and the "style" (I dislike that word) I've steered this build toward, rat style just makes absolutely no sense for this car.
5-point harnesses, fixed-back bucket seats, half cage, battery in the cabin, big dumb wing, cut fenders, flares, light weight racing-orientated wheels (ovals), boost, lips, fully gutted interior, carbon fiber (I got the hood back lol) bla bla bla, this car isn't really a rat, I've always kind of wanted it to come out looking like a Kanjo car, I just never put the idea to paper intentionally, it all kind of just manifested in all the parts I grabbed for it.
With that said, I'm going to shoot for the Kanjo / Japanese street scene aesthetic as it just seems to make sense. Going to be drafting up some graphics and a paint scheme. Thinking of going with a Rustoleum knock off of the classic Honda Type-R (Pheonix) yellow, or just a gloss white, maybe some combination of the two.
Here are some visual ideas to give the European car guys an idea of what I'm shooting for lol. Car is still going to air out flat and hit the ground, I did some more notching and test fits look very promising, car will be lower this year than ever before.
my bum ass ain't afford real door vinyls so I'm drafting up my own that'll be as large as a piece of computer paper, not too shabby I suppose consider the price of free. Not sure what to put in the middle, not going to use any jdm livery as those groups take that stuff seriously.
okay so i took a weekend and i painted it ... 11$ worth of materials .... it came out BAD ... but hey, it's not rust and chalkboard paint. i didn't take pics as it's awaiting reassembly. for under 48 hours of work and a total rush job i'm pretty happy. also got my door bibs finished and installed, the rear one came out bad and potentially warrants a re-do but the door ones came out mint. here's a little teaser pic of the front end, no real paintwork can be seen as everything was still masked lol
Bad to the point where even wet sanding can't save it? I mean, you're only out $11 lol
There's not much to save, it's flat 1$ cans from Wal-Mart, a lot of runs, really, really, really bad prep work. It's white and red though! It's a 25 foot paint job.

Gotta love 20/20 paint jobs. Looks good from 20 feet and at 20mph. So happy you decided to go away from rust and chalkboard.
