  • Porsche 996 C2 - SEMA 2016 Build

Seems like it may be time for me to make a build thread. The original plans are located in the quote. The new updated plans are below the quote. I'll be posting a lot of the updates on my IG (JohnLee425) and will be utilizing a #geekysbuild hashtag for the turbo build.

I've owned a multitude of previous cars (mostly Audi) and have been around the stance seen for a while. However, after working at the bbk company, I realized I want a form + function vehicle so got into a Porsche 996 911 Carrera 2. Plans for the car are as follows

    Go fast parts:
    - Schnell Intake (installed)
    - Fabspeed Headers (installed)
    - Fabspeed Muffler Bypass (installed)
    - EVOms Tune

    Suspension & Wheels & Brakes:
    - OEM 996 gt3 coilovers (bilstein dampers w/ H&R springs) (purchased)
    - Extended stud conversion (purchased)
    - 17" Twists w/ Hankook RS3's (track) (purchased)
    - 18" Turbo Twists w/ Pilot Sports (daily) (purchased)
    - Sparta Evo TS2401 Front BBK 355mm
    - Sparta Evo TS2402 Rear BBK 345mm

    Interior:
    - OMP Steering Wheel
    - Reupholster Corbeau FIA approved (purchased)
    - Schroth harnesses
    - 4 point bolt in roll bar

    Exterior:
    - Custom 996 duck tail
    - Bolt-on fender flares (purchased)
That being said, I was offered an incredible opportunity to have a custom 1-off turbo kit made for this car as a SEMA sponsorship. So now the car is getting an LSD, a custom 1-off turbo install, LN Engineering deep sump pan, and a couple of other interior and exterior goodies in prep for SEMA 2015. As she sits now.

Got a lot of the placement and layout stuff figured out. Decided to go with the comp turbo oil less setup thats only watercooled as I don't want to tap into the OEM Porsche oil pressure system. The comp turbo is a 3 sealed bearing design, super slick. Everything is looking great so far. Materials ordered, manifolds will start being laid out in the next couple of weeks!

This is the current state of the widebody. I'm making a custom one off widebody kit. It is very similar to the JT Mode 996 widebody kit but much wider than that. As for the front bumper, I'm moulding in an OEM aero kit and a couple of extra things to clean up the front body lines. The rear decklid will be modified to look similar to a C4S rear end and I'll be adding a APR Carbon GT Wing.

All the Jeep guys at SEMA are thinking: "We've been doing bolt on flares for years, what's the big deal?"

No offense taken, I'm doing the bolt on flares because I plan on truly enjoying this car on track and replacing bolt on flares can easily be done incase of light contact. Plus, I've worked with RWB in the past and have friends that own 993 RWB's that I'm personally a big fan of the bolt on flares on a pcar. Having met Nakai multiple times, I've come to truly appreciate his work and the bolt on flare look. I was offered the JT Mode widebody kit but I told Toshi and Nakai-san that I wanted something wider. Was considering the JT Mode duck bill decklid but due to the layout of the turbo kit being similar to the 930, I'll be making a custom decklid similar to the 930.

                              Need your opinions on this.

Basing the rear decklid off an original 930 design. However, I do also have an APR Carbon GT Wing in storage. Contemplating if I should make a decklid similar to the 993 turbo with the extended carbon wing on top.
