  • Still waiting on word from the boys at Broadway Static about the coils, was hoping to have them before this weekend but that is definitely not going to be happening...

As this weekend is a long weekend (we get Friday and the Monday off as public holidays due to it being Easter), I am considering doing the engine raise and double notch, as well as replacing the tie rods with the "bent" ones I got from IDF ages ago with the lower control arms.

Car will go up on axle stands Friday afternoon and won't come down until the front end is sorted. I really need 2/3mm spacers for the rear and to take the perches out and see where it sits... Probably not drivable, but want to go as close to lip to guard as possible.

Might need to buy some of the 4" springs that Broadway provide.

    • Today was definitely interesting.
I wanted to do the engine raise and double notch but realised I didn't have my welder so can't really finish the notch. It's all well and good making the cuts etc, but definitely don't want to drive around with the notch and chassis rails getting gunk through them. Not a good time.

I had a look into how to do the engine raise though, looks simple enough to be honest. Not going to lie though, having the engine bay visible made me really want to wire tuck it. I've always considered moving the battery to the boot, but remembering what Oxer's bay looks like in his Civic really makes me want to wire tuck and shave my bay... I know it is a tonne of work, but would set Lucy apart from the other Mk4's here in Australia.

I also investigated the tie rod changing. It seems very doable if I can get a balljoint puller tomorrow.

Anyway, I decided I'd fit the RS that isn't getting rebuilt to the front to remember how it fits. I really need to get more camber up front and it needs to be much lower as well. Those Broadway Static front coils can't come soon enough. Gave her a good bath too and took some photos.

Just can't get over the rear camber, to me it is perfect. Now to just the fronts matching.

Oh, the right rear is definitely got a slow leak. I might investigate that tomorrow too.

*Any mistakes in typing, I apologise for, I've drunk way too much rum while washing the car.

            • Spent some more money on her yesterday.

The boys at We Are Likewise released their European adapter for pre-order yesterday. I jumped on it straight away, purchasing the adapter, their Rod Stewart and Deathgrip.

Time to get some gold accents happening in the interior to match the wheels.

              • I got a shitty Snapchat phone camera side photo, but today I figured I'd take the rear perches out and have a look at how the rear fit.

There's a couple of videos and a couple of fitmünt photos on my Snapchat too which I uploaded to my Flickr. Not going to post up in here because in portrait and no one likes portrait photos.

This is how I left Lucy. Back on Audi wheels all around and with all the rake possible. I am hanging for those Broadway static coils now.

                • Last night went for a bit of a drive. Didn't end well.

Rubbed some paint, now it's burnt, good times. Pulled handbrake, did a burnout, now ABS light went on for some reason.

Sussed it today. Seems one of the bolts when installing the camber shims didn't go right through the bottom caliper mount and had fallen out somewhere. So the caliper has actually moved, probably why ABS went on because only half the pad was touching the disc. Solid effort.

Checked the other side, low and behold the bolt was still there but hanging on by a single thread. Pulled it out, will go to Bunnings or something at some point and get a longer one.

I woke up super sick though. Two days without gym and I'm already struggling, will hopefully go tonight if this sickness gets a little better.

                  • Sourced some 10mm longer bolts today. Bolted up the rear calipers to the carriers properly and all seems to be good.

Have a feeling a few new issues might arise now, but we'll see how we go. ABS light won't go out, so have to get VCDS or some shit to clear the code and hope it doesn't come back.

Car is on the Audi wheels all round again, I decided to polish up the RS' while home sick again today. I'm hoping to get a drill some time this week and a few drill bits to at least drill the barrel ready to be rebuilt.

                    • ABS light turned off by itself during the week so seems that problem is fixed.

BWS Coils arrived Thursday, started the installation on Saturday and due to a dumb from me, car wasn't driveable until Sunday. Got the car back on the ground a little lower up front than before at the lowest possible height before needing a notch.

Hopefully notch and engine raise this Saturday goes without any issues. Then I'll slam the front some more and we'll be good to go for a VW show this Sunday.

                      • Some hood rat shit went down over the weekend with Stu. Was such an awesome weekend, making me crave being back in the city and closer to the boys again.

                        Started with breakfast in Glenny

Then we got to the heaven factory and put Lucy on the hoist to get her real low.

I didn't get a before photo, but we brought the fronts up around 25mm. I find it hilarious at how far up the strut/spindle etc sits in the wheel well.

Got it all back on the ground and went for a quick test drive.

It was obvious we needed a notch, with the drivers side axle giving the chassis rail some love. So what did we do, well we got super drunk and decided we could still cut a hole in the chassis rail, build up the notch piece and weld it in...

We got her on the floor again later that night after copious amounts of alcohol was consumed. I smashed a bottle of Sailor Jerry to myself, just to give you an idea of how drunk we were...

Anyway, the next day went for a bit of a cruise, did some driving, let the road make some serious love to the sump and subframe. But alas, it was not rubbing the driveshaft and I was finally low.

I made it back to Ballarat, two and a bit hours later. Was a stressful drive, but wouldn't change it for the world. Now I just have to fix up the RS' and put them on and she's how she should have been sitting last November.
