Nothing major to update. I ordered some new timing chains, camshafts, and oem fl2 buttons to go with the new shift surround.

So a lot has happened since the last time I updated this. Sadly nothing has gone on the car.... A month ago we had single digit temps, which pretty much kicked my cars ass. I've had a head gasket leaking for a long time now. I've just been lazy and never done anything about it. I babied the car for the last two years. I guess the single digit temps were the last straw for the heads and they started to smoke, and my tps or maf I assume gave up on me as well. So for the last month I have been in a rental car.
I have ordered the following parts for my spare engine;
cam shafts
timing chains
timing guides
iac
oil pump assembly
mussa gauge pillar
9:1 cp pistons
acl bearings
new valve seals
new cylinder head bolts
cylinder heads cleaned, surfaced, and pressure checked
I am sure there is something else I am missing. My only hold up at the moment is trying to separate the upper oil pan from the block. It's been a pita. I still plan on; having the crank balanced, making sure if the standard bearings I ordered will work or not, having the block cleaned, rods shot peened, and honed. This is the first time I've built an engine and it's been a learning experience to say the least.Last edited by Code AiR; 03-19-2015, 10:04 PM.

I know the delta so I just stick with what I know lol. My goals are modest for it anyways it's a daily. I just want a reliable set up with 250hp and call it a day.
250whp or at the crank? The stage 3 ngm sc will have you seeing around 275 whp reliably with alk injection.
I figure with a free flowing exhaust, larger injectors, a cam regrind and a good tune you should be seeing 290 easy on the stock bottom end while maintaining reliability. You could probably use a smaller pulley with the built bottom end and make a hell of a lot more than that hahaha.
Are you going to use an ngm ice box for cooling our adapt something like the ac refrigerant to Cool the charge?

I am half way through ordering my engine sensors. I ordered a TPS a couple of days ago. This morning I ordered a knock, and engine temp sensor as well. I need to order a; crank sensor, camshaft sensor, mass air flow sensor, and a intake air temp sensor. After I get all the sensors out of the way I can order a new axle, new water pump assembly, full gasket kit, new spark plug wires, and new spark plugs. I might order a new upper oil pan I stripped a thread on my current one. It happens to be the thread that you use to separate the pans from the block.
I am waiting on some bell housing bolts to arrive so I can mount the block to a stand so I can separate it easier, as well drain the remaining oil in the engine. My priority is to get the car running again so all the supercharger and tuning parts have been put off until I can get the new engine in the car.

So I've been fighting with this engine for the last two weeks. I did my research or at least I thought I did before I tried breaking the engine down. Some jackass on the main gk (03-08 Tib) forum put not to open the oil pan or you risk damaging something. So I never did, I got curious after several failed attempt of seperation the oil pans from the block. Turns out I couldny seperate the upper oil pan from the block because there was like other bolts holding it together. So I am finally able to get to the crank, rods and pistons now!!!

Had an xd elantra which is basically a 4 door tiburon that weighs 200lbs less and has the beta2.
Glad to see that you are still updating this thread. Hurry and get some car pics up. I really want to see it on those wheels.

Small update
This year has been full of set backs on building my spare engine. First shop I went to balanced, and polished my crankshaft. They honed, and bored the block. They also pressed my pistons on. I asked them to balanced my pistons and rods. When I arrived to pick everything up I learned they didn't balance my rods, and pistons. They argued with me that they didn't need it. I also asked them about assembling the engine when I first dropped my parts off. They acted like it was no problem for them to do it. It was a different story when I went to pick up the parts. So I was pissed and decided to take my business elsewhere. It took me a week but I found another shop to fix the first shops mistake by not balancing everything.
No shop would assemble the engine because of two different shops doing machine work. I found a guy through the man who sold me the engine. Two months went by the guy was having health complications so I had to look elsewhere. The man who sold me the engine introduced me to his brother in-law who was willing to assemble it for me. Which worked out for the best because I did not have spare bolts or nuts. So the man who sold me the spare engine lended a spare engine for parts.
The engine is just about fully assembled I dropped off the last set of seals and gasket. So it should be done soon.
