E36 Widebody Build

My last wb build was this:



This was a cheap ass e-bay kit. With a front bumper from a ford and honda skirts and rear bumper. This car look'd perfect in the end.

I mean no offence but even a cheap kit can look good. And i think everyone has to look further than what he/she likes. There is always the money. You have to be honest with yourselfat what you can afford.

I'm not trying to be an ass, i really like your style and i'm a great fan off your car. But not everyone can afford e decent or expensive kit

The amount of fail in this picture is staggering.

Mark do you mind if I call you Mark?, ok good, I think that if you really really took your time with this, went through, did a little extra molding work, you could get the body panels aligned, and really make this look great. After reading that section from War and Peace above (jokes), I see that you really do have a desire to make this amazing, and I am sure that the guys at EuroProjectz are more than capable of helping you down that path. I for one am looking forward to seeing what you can do with this, right now, I'm not too crazy about it, but it does have potential if done right to be an awesome awesome build .

To the OP. Good on you for having such a cool head about everything. I agree with Sean about the Real > Rep kits, but hey, You're doing what YOU want to do. Im sure that in the end if you take your time and align all the panels correctly, It will turn out great.

but seriously this is what i love about stanceworks, what we have here is a very healthy discussion where everyone voices their opinion maturely and without downright insulting each other, thats why i stopped my build thread i bfc a while ago. I can understand when you insult the creator of the build thread, thats the point of a build thread, for the creator to get opinions on what their doing, positive or negative, but when people start tearing down each other over my build and start taking "sides", it really takes the fun out of the whole thing, so i guess my point is make sure you guys dont let this get out of hand.

I guess i should clarify the body kit dilemma we have. OK SO, pretty much my all time dream car when i was like 11 was an E46 with a flossman widebody, that was the holy grail right thur, i didnt know it was called a flossman widebody until i started looking it up online and reading through forums. At about this point i knew i was getting the E36 from my dad. Most of you would think i would be pretty happy about this, lets get something straight here, in all honesty the E36 is probably one of the uglier bmws ever created..i mean being completly serious, there are some cars out there that with some new wheels and a drop look like head turners, but all you E36 owners out there know these cars are fairly ugly unless you put a lot of work into them, however all BMW owners have come to accept the unwritten code of E36 > than everything set forth by E36 owners. Anyway moving on, somewhere i saw the e92 GTR concept and i realized that there was this "race car" version of every bwm created, right away i started looking up the E36...what i saw had me obsessed for the next 3 years of my life, the E36 PTG race car, i knew i wanted my car to look like that, i actually came across the esquiss body kit in my google image searches at some point before i had joined bfc and i remeber thinking how ugly it was, only later i found out how e36 owners obsess over this kit and how expensive it was, but i know what i wanted, and i don't want the expensive fantastically fitting esquiss kit, i wanted the PTG one, so i went out and bought it, at the time i paid about $1600 and another $800 for the hood.

and lets get something straight that someone already pointed out, every ptg kit sold is a replica of a replica of a replica...they all are shitty, you can no longer find one that is oem quality because it doesnt exsist, seriously even if you wanted to PTG sold off the molds long ago..

that being said, any of you thinking about getting a cheap body kit, dont...its not worth it, if you can afford it, please please dish out the extra hundred or two, it is so worth it in the end.

Oh and i was gonna save this for my next update coming up soon but i guess ill break the news to you guys early since this thread got bumped somehow, about 4ish months ago i sent an application into Europrojektz, and after working very hard with Bebe the Midwest chapter director my membership got accepted, i will be meeting all the guys tomorrow at Another Level, which i would recommend anyone who is in the area to attend, Import Tuner will be providing coverage and looks like it will be a lot of fun in general http://www.anotherlevelcarshow.com/

*Edit- About the wheels, the only time it is reccomended to get the wheels before hand is if you are making a custom widebody, like the B6 build on here, when you have custom flares there are clearance issues that need to be sorted out before hand as to prevent you newly fashioned fenders from being ripped off by your wheels.

I think it looks tough as now and, with final adjustments for fitment, will hopefully look sweet. I'm curious on the makeup of the kit though, is it just bolted/riveted over your existing body panels or does it replace them? Basically, are they gonna flap around at high speed?

3. WHY DIDN'T YOU BUY WHEELS FIRST??!?!?!?!?!?!?! Your going to look like an idiot if you roll around w/ 2 feet of fender sticking out of your car w/ no wheels to fill it!

^^^ And this guy has perfect fitment??....Riiiiiight. Your doing it wrong. Buy the wheels later cause no matter how much calculation you do beforehand, your always going to get the best measurements when the body's done.

The part you're neglecting to acknowledge is that the body pieces are likely not very durable. So the amount of time needed to make it fit even remotely well compared to how long it will last is a waste.

Right. Even though it is a "cheap" kit (relative to other kits), I still have high hopes for this build. With some good body work I think this kit will come together nicely. Kudos to the OP for undertaking something like this.

I agree with Ben, most of the people on here don't have the balls to even try this stuff. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. Everything is always a work in progress also, so I'm sure the OP has lots of things in store to work things out make it look better.

Props to the OP for tackling this project while dealing with a bunch of other shit. Lookin' good so far!

I'm not trying to "****" on this car I just think that a car with <200hp does not need 12" wide wheels and a wide body to fit them... Just kinda seems like there's a bit of a priority mix up in my book. I know this isn't a performance forum and thats not the point of most of the cars here but my dogma is FAST>HANDLE>LOOK GOOD. Make it fast first then get rubber/suspension to handle it then a body to cover it all.

I don't know, its just my opinion but Kudos for the balls to carry it out I guess. Will still be watching for those quarters.

agreed. fuck the ******, do what you want. id ten times rather have a 'not perfect fitment' widebody e36 than a mint but still ugly ass regular e36. keep up the good work bro, i like where this build is going.
