plates seam welded in and ground down. also bought a little propane heater for the garage which is awesome

progress is slow and pretty rubbish atm. struggling to find a way to grind down the edge where the inner arch meets the fabricated panel. its too tight for a grinder. could do with one of those long belt sander things, but thats $$$$ i dont have.

this is best ive got them so far using a grinding disk on the angle grinder and nibbling away at it. (ignore my shit welding)

but there's areas like this which are too boxed in for the grinder

its really holding up progress as everything else is pretty much welded and grinded and ready for filler.

ended up buying a finger power belt sander thing and that made a pretty nice job of getting in the space.

after various trials with seam sealant i couldn't achieve a finish with the seam sealer that i was happy with. couldnt get it smooth enough. after talking to a few people with smooth engine bay experience ive decided to use filler. lots of people said not to and itll crack, lots of people said it would be okay. so i thought id try it,

        first parts when on tonight.

kept putting way too much on. large large learning curve. never worked with filler before.

and thats how i left it for tonight.

will have a big push to get alot done this weekend before monday as thats when i start my new job and will have to focus on that for a bit.

The amount of work your putting in is sure to yield some great results man! Prep twice paint once....something like that, right?

                      SUB'D.

I used body filler on my last shaved bay project, and it never had any issues. But I also didn't use it in stress areas either, so who knows.

it really seems to be a mixed bag of opinions and verdicts. guess there's only one way to find out.

                          Small update.

Engine bay is still in the works. Many an evening rubbing bloody filler. My fingertips **** me. Got the cross member back and built that up tonight. Also bought a bunch of stuff,

                          intercooler
                          rad
                          steering bits
                          pas pipes
                          rack spacers
                          fuel pump

rad in place just to gauge a few things

also stripped the engine today. everythings looking real good. stacks up with the mileage of 53k on the clocks. will be completely rebuilt anyway.

While you have your subframe out reinforce the motormounts! I broke mine with an m42!Oil pan was sitting on the steering rack... Trust me, you don't want to waste an entire weekend tearing apart your car to fix something you had sitting on the floor!!!

What I did to fix it...More pics of mine in my thread...
