Some news on the W108..

New seals:


Done:


43 years later.. this one war very dry...


Once removed


the new one in place:


Then we build back the torque converter:


We also changed some parts of the gearing shaft


Now the gerabox is on the car (it is easier to write than to do..)

We can then change the filter and put some new oil

Not really hard, 4 bolts on the 4 corners


The oil seems to be good,


But there was some dirty things on the old filter..

After some cleaning


We put everything back together


Everything seems to be ok

Then we switch the cars (some work has to be done on the GTI)

Some news on the W108,

I still had some fuel pressure problems

I checked the tank it was again full of rust

So I decided to buy a new one (unfortunately not available anymore at MB..)

I finally found a new one in Germany (where else?)



No doubt, it is brand new

Mine still has a lot of work, I want to be able to drive it without any problems before starting working on the "cosmetic"

not sure if you got your stalling problem fixed from the tank to the fuel pump, but from the earlier picture, it seems like you have the wrong inlet hose to the pump from the tank. The correct hose is a reinforced cloth host to handle the high PSI. Any other type of fuel hose will just keep collapsing, thus the starvation. I even had a high PSI fuel hose on it, just kept collapsing. I tested it by putting a spring inside the hose and it stopped, so i just ordered the correct hose and never had the problem again, but if that's not your problem, then yeah, just ignore me.

Now I have to order a new fuel pump, since the residual rust damaged the last one

I dissasembled the old one,

And there was a small piece of rust blocking the all thing,

Unfortunately I was not able to rebuild the pump since the bottom o-ring (near the entry of the fuel) was impossible to put in place...

Wait and see for the new pump...

In the meantime I bought a new car...
