    Hi,

    thanks for the comments,

As promised, I washed the tank again , on a sunny day, instead of going to some nice place to enjoy it, I thought the best place was under the 3.5 (at least I will avoid a skin cancer...)

    So here we are:

My two best friends, the red devil and my rolling bed

the cheapest MB tool (mandatory to remove the tank filter)

    No air needed...

There still was some rust in the tank... (I recycled the gasoline, since there were more tahn 60 liter in it )

So I decided to test it on my usual road, it was runing well, until it stalled..

It did so 4-5 time so it takes me a while to go back home...

    The brakes were completely blocked

    Rusty...

So I ordered 4 news calipers since I was unable to unlock the pistons even with 10 bars, we will see what will be the next problem...

      Hi,

      some news of the W108

Holidays have gone (too fast as usual)

Finally the callipers have been rebuilt (except one, I will let you guess which one on the pictures) with a kit coming straight from Germany

      The grease:

      Jawohl General!

the pistons have to be placed in a specific position to avoid any noise when breaking (well that's not my major problem for the time being...)

      Front callipers ready to work...

Every part has been ordered new

We can now start the puzzle, front left:

      Front right (brand new)

      Rear callipers:

I broke one rigid hose, but I ordered a new one...

      In the place to be:

It was quite an easy thing to do, but (yes there is always a "but" with oldies), it was impossible to "bleed" (I don't know if it is the right word, I mean to remove the air in the breaking system) the rear callipers....

After hours of checking and reflexion, I found the guilty...

the flexibles were blocked, it was impossible to unblocked them even with an iron string

Once again... I had to order two new hoses

      Result: breaking is now perfect,

But the engine stalls when warm...

      To be continued....

                Some news

I received the last injection parts to do some more tests

                A pressure regulator (0 280 160 007 old ref. 0 280 160 004) and a pressure damper (0 280 161 002 old ref. 0 280 161 001)...

                The original ones

                The new ones:

After some test the hot start issue seems to have disapear, but the idle is quite high now, I have to make some adjustement to have it better,

The new rims en 15` (7x15 ET 25, same size (but not same design) as the ones that were optional on this car)

I finally received the right bolts for those wheels,

Hmm H&R?... I didn't know there were also doing bolts

unfortunately the head of the bolts is to high, I will not be able to put the caps..

                    It's a work in progress^

                            Hi All,

some news on the car before the winter,

I tried it on the road, but it is impossible to drive above 30km/h, the gearbox doesn't pass the 2nd gear, and the car stalls...

Will have some work for the winter...

                              Hi all,

                              somes news on the W108...

The winter has gone, so I decided to do some work on the gearbox

That's my first try on a rear wheel drive car and on an automatic gearbox... (I'm used to Golf GTI Mk1...)

First we drain the oil, to do so we remove the filler:

Then we drain the torque converter, we have to turn the engine by hand to put the screw in this position (the V8 seems to have nice compressions, since it was quite hard to turn..)

Then we can remove the two tubes that go to the gearbox oil cooler

Then remove the "pressure command" lever

                              Then unscrew the electrovalve cable

Remove the derpession tube, (maintaning the 14 bolt on the gearbox side)

                              Odometer cable

                              Then unplug the electrical connector

                              Removing the gearbox rods

Now every peripherical thing has been removed from the gearbox, we can start removing the rear support (6 bolts in total)

We now put the jack to keep it aligned

We remove the transmission shaft, the bolt were very hard tu unlock

Everything seems to be quite new on this side...

Now the real plaesure starts... Unlock the 6 bolt that maintain the torque converter and the flex plate together... we have to turn the engine by hand to align the bolts with the small window...

Then remove the 12 bolts that maintains the engine and the gearbox (some of them a really unaccessible... a real nightmare)

                              In case of..

                              Here we are..

Then the gearbox is finally free, I found a small indication "austauschgerät" which means that the gearbox has been replaced by MB

                              The rear seal seems good

                              The front seal too,

                              After a small cleaning

Just a detail concerning the torque converter, it is the two small things on the center which make the oil pump turn, do not force when you put the torque converter back on the gearbox, not to break it (a torque converter is quite expensive...)

On the engine side it is quite greasy...

Herer is the so called flex plate...

I ordered a new seal for the cranckshaft since this one seems to leak

                              @ plus!
