  • W108 another 3.5l in the place

    Hello,

I will present you my W10 280 SE 3.5 in this post,

Just a quick introduction on the car,

I was talking with a friend of my father in law about old cars (he owns a Studebaker silverhawk), I already have some classic but I told him I was dreaming about an old V8 (german of course)
I told my, I have an old mercedes 3.5l in a garage somewhere I've put it there 10 years ago, if you want it it's yours

Ok, I was thinking about a W116, well why not, that's not the car of my dreams, but we will see,
One week later, he phoned to show me the car,

When he opened the garage door, that's what I saw :

    I was like ,
How much do you sell it?

He told me: No it's for free, if you want it, just take it

So one week later I was the owner of this car (one more...)

And I bring it back home

    V8 are great...

    Constructor ID:

But.. It has some work to be done...

    Rust have done its job..

    It was already "repaired"

    Another one

Before trying to start the engine, I decided to clean the tank

Fuel pump and filter seemed ok

SInce the tank is down, we can track the rust and do some paint job

    More to come..

              Thank you for your comments,

The next step was the restoration of all the rigid fuel lines:

first removing the old ones, taking some pictures to see where rebuild the new ones

The car is in very good shape there is almost no rust (and only superficial)

The lines have already been "repaired"

After removing all the parts, I sandblsated them, and send them to surface treatment

All the plastic hoses have been changed

              Silenblocs too

Fuel pump and filter ready to work

              Before/After

                          Back in Jan 2013,

At the beginning of the month I received a nice parcel 6.5 meters long...

What's inside? Two 6 meter stainless steel pipes

The aim was to rebuilt the fuel lines, but it was not as easy as I thought....

Finally, the job has been done

                          to be continued...

But seriously make us french proud and do this thing right. I can already tell by your dedication to the clean-ness of the fuel that you'll warm her back up.

ps: why did he have in storage for 10yrs?

Hi, your french is very good

He put it on storage since he bought än Audi 100 C4 15 years ago,

The W108 had some rust and he stocked it waiting for a restoration which never came,

Then he needed the place to stock his Studebaker, (maybe the next barnfind in 10-20 years)
