Holden SS beater-wagon, my not so sensible daily drifter
So went drifting on friday, was my second time ever so i was still getting the hang of things, no broken shit this time still have to edit the gopro footage but heres some quick photos
Enjoyed the story so far. Subbed! Like the BBS reps the best! Just my 2cts.
Thanks mate, yeah I like them too, hangs pretty low on 18s, if they were wider or lower offset id rock the shit out of them, will remain on hand for spirited driving and the like, has semis on the front and its surprising how nimble the big girl can be haha
Will give her a bath and take some photos with the wheels swapped around tomorrow
Decided to get into it and roll my front guards today.
They were looking a bit haggard
Trimmed the little mounting nubs on the inner guards so I could get the lips flat, actually came out pretty good.
Then I put the rears back on...
Excuse the filthy car, it gets its bath tomorrow
Even with my current camber availability maxxed I still cant fit them properly
So im im at the point where I either, swap the irs cradle for an earlier commodore to get more camber, or run the fronts on the rear with a small spacer and hope I can get away with that.
The bulk of the problem is that the rear guards have 2 or 3 layer steel lips so evem when rolled as flat as they can go, you still get a lip.
The day after the meet, I was supposed to go on a giant cruise that Dioxide puts together every few months, due to the varrstoens scrub problems still not sorted and not wanting to go back to 18x8+48 oem wheels, I stole the bbs reps off my other project
Theyre 18x9 +32 all round and only scrubbed slightly during bumps while hard cornering
A pic from the cruise
And a random one
I also re-adjusted the camber tops for -3 camber in the front in anticipation of trying to make the varrstoens work haha
I loved it, it looked great!! However, due to the common problem of the irs cradle being slightly off center, my passenger side poked about 5mm more than the drivers, resulting in the guard sitting on the tyre and the rim lip was hitting guard
Id already decided I was going to a local car meet that afternoon so I set about trying to make them fit, I re-rolled the guards harder till they were dead flat, but to no avail, I needed more camber! So in a last ditch attemp to make the meet, I put the fronts on the ass and the rears up front
After a particularly scrubby (fronts) trip, I made it to the meet
I decided to celebrate my new found happiness with my new coilovers in typical australian style... burnouts!
Now given that the rays were damaged (well one was) it seemed like a good enough reason to start looking for new wheels. So I sold the rays to a friend without losing too much money an began the hunt for new kicks.
One of my mates had recently swapped for some wide wheels but later decided they were too agressive and wanted to offload them. After umm-ing and ahh-ing for a while I decided to take the plunge.
I ended up with a set of varrstoen es2 in 19x9.5 all round +30f +22r.
So I got them home and test fitted them, immediately falling inlove with the agressive look
The front wheels were pretty pokey and stock later model commodores have next to no front camber adjustment so I bought some fancy adjustable camber tops
I then went about buying some tyres, after reading a lot on on stance forums including this one, about tyre stretch and looking at alot of photos trying to decide what tyre brand and width I wanted, I decided on some achilles atr sports in a 225/35/19
Now what the forums had failed to mention is that varrstoens have really odd lips that poke out a tone when stretched and also occasionally cut tyre beads when trying to fit low profile tyres with stiff sidewalls
As cool as it looked, I decided that the local law enforcement wouldnt look to kindly too it and we'd also already damaged the bead on a tyre and didnt want to risk more so I went to a 235/35/19 instead
Which seemed to have a lot less stretch than the 225 but I was going to have to make do.
The day cam for the first proper test fit, id rolled my guards, adjusted my camber and was ready to go!!
finaaaaaaallly, For those plasying at home the first car has been in the build for 5 years and hasn't moved. We are all betting when it will be parted out....
