Quick wash and some tire shine later it was rollbar installation day...... NOT fucking fun doing it by myself. Maybe it was the crappy air drill I had or the awkwardness of the bar itself but it was a bitch putting this fucker in!!! Only photos I took are a couple before and one during.....
But awesome progress, can't wait to see these new wheels
Appreciated!!!
My boy Jack is my best friend!!!! I got him when he was 5 weeks old and he still looks the same just with a bigger head haha... Now hes 6 years old and a lazy bum lol
Thanks.. The eyelids are hit or miss with some people. Sometimes I wish I could take them off for a cleaner look but unfortunately installing them required cutting the upper seal off the headlight. Once installed your committed to them. As for the wheels I 100% agree with you. The XXR's have served their purpose but the car deserves better now. I have a custom solution that should be arriving at my door soon...
Lookin' real good. Only thing I can't get down with are the eyelids and the wheels. Eyelids are for Srt4 and vdub owners with bad taste. As far as the wheels, the fit is great but a restored car that looks that good deserves something better than knockoffs.
Thanks Its like a get outta jail free card cops give to their non cop friends. Other cops do the same so they respect it and wont ticket you for minor bullshit like dumb laws against tinted windows. Thats the best way I can describe lol. It may be a New Jersey only thing but I may be wrong..
I wouldn't wax the new paint for at least a month.
My painter told me 6 weeks which is why it looks dirty in all the last photos and some more to come. I wanted to wax it so bad but I waited and did misc. stuff.. and thank you!!!
So I had to work on the day the glass was getting installed I couldnt wait to get off work and Get more done and drive it home!!! After the glass was done I installed the eyelids, side skirts, muffler trim, and rolled the new front fenders. The drive home was AMAZING!!!!! It felt so good after waiting weeks to get it finished to finally drive it. It was still filthy but almost all together
A couple days later the tape came off. I drove to have the windows tinted and on the way home..... FROM THE TINT SHOP... I get pulled over for?????........................ You guessed it.... Tinted front windows AND no front license plate (Required in NJ)
Lucky for me I had a PBA card and he let me slide Only things left were to install the roll bar, roof spoiler and polish buff and wax the whole car.
Almost driveable status!!!! The last set of pictures were all taken the first day of reconstruction. The second day I was so motivated to get it back together I didnt take any photos until the end of the day. I couldnt resist taking it off the lift for a couple photos!!! It still wasnt finished but it was mostly together. I had to wait till the next day ( monday ) to have the glass guy come back and install the front and rear windows. I sat them in place for the photos though.
List of things still needing installation after these photos:
Windows
Side skirts
Muffler shield
Roof spoiler
Eyelids
Alot of misc etc etc...........
AAAnnnddddddd..........The roll bar which was alot harder to install than I thought so I didnt attempt to install it for a while after everything else was done.
I couldnt stop grinning from ear to ear while taking these photos!! I was so excited to see what I had envisioned right in front me!! Dont mind the dirt, smudges, shit weather and crappy pics .... The suspension needed to "re-settle" from being off the car for so long so its sitting a little high also.
The donor miata had a manual antenna vs my broken auto antenna so I grabbed a stubby aluminum screw in antenna off ebay and swapped it over. You would be surprised how hard it is to find one on ebay that is straight painted and isnt half carbon fiber insert riced out but I found one and love it!!! The tinted tails looked pretty good to!!
Also the ebay muffler looked and sounded great!! Very low key sound wise which is what I wanted.
Well it was time to put the car back together. It went pretty smooth overall I think. The hardest part was waiting for the glass guy to come install the front and back window so I could drive it I knocked out all the big stuff like the front end, trunk, rear bumper and soft top in about two days. A little longer than I expected but I was taking my time so I wouldnt scratch anything. I masked off the paint where parts met to block any contact scratches which worked great. Heres some progress shots...
Off the trailer!!
Making one car out of two Good Miata in the shop and the donor right behind it. Both cars were filthy and since handling the parts would make them dirty anyway I figured I would wait till the car was complete to clean polish and wax the entire car. I did rinse the donor car off though.
Practically new top from the donor car was a pain to install!!! An extra set of hands would have really helped but I was by myself that day It looked great when I was done though!!
