Put the CPP 5" rear coils and shocks on this morning.
Every single bolt broke
Had to cut the old springs out
Cut the spring retainers in half
Torch the trailing arms
10lb Sludge the remainder of the lower spring bolts out
Weld the retainers back together
Drill out the factory threaded nut on the top of the retainer
Install all new hardware
Shocks took a bit of massaging as well
So what started out as a 10 minute job took half of my day.
Driveway isn't level, this is just after install so it doesn't do the truck justice.
Did I mention the PO (at some point) just heated up the stock springs? Next is the front.

The truck is in Dallas right now at Painless performance being used to build their new 64-66 full body wiring harness. So I am getting a completely free painless wiring harness out of the gig! New school fuse block, every wire and bulb is getting replaced. Pretty stoked by buddies that work there hooked me up.
The plan is to start bagging it when I get it back.

They're finally finished with it. Headed up to Dallas in the morning to tow it back.
Picked up the new power plant last weekend at the pick n pull. They were having a $150 engine sale.
Already have the motor apart to clean. Adding Texas Speed 228r cam, ls9 head gaskets and ARP head studs. Plan is to put an NV3500/NV4500 behind it for mpg/towing.
I'll probably bag it first though, tired of the 4x4 look, even with 5" drop springs.

Picked the truck up a few weeks ago!
Pulling it back from Dallas
I said to my buddy "I like the I6/Saginaw 3 speed in this truck. I think I'm going to just drive it as is for a while."
Well a few days later the rear end let go. I haven't opened it yet, but it didn't sound good. Funny thing is that it was the only thing on the truck that didn't leak. Meaning I probably bought it empty.
The next day:
I sold the stock motor/trans for more than the complete 5.3 cost me.
Cleaning:
Rust repair:
PO had made floor mats out of semi trailer mud flaps and sheet metal screwed them down all throughout the cab. I had a ton of 1/4 holes to fill.
Right now I'm waiting on parts to arrive in the mail:
-Porterbuilt front bag setup
-LS motor mounts
-C60 Grille
-$1,000 CPP Disc brake setup
My plan for the rear end is a narrowed Exploder 8.8 3.73 posi. Readily available from the PNP at $119. Can't go wrong really. 12 bolt isn't worth rebuilding, too expensive and it's an open rear end unless I want to spend a lot $$$$$.
I hope to have the front put back together on the bag setup just as soon as it gets here. Then I'll unbolt the cab and roll the frame out from under it.

It was $300 after the core charge. Still pretty good for a complete 5.3.
Waiting on my thread chaser to get here so I can put the heads back on.
Motor mounts will be here Monday, just waiting on the Porterbuilt bag stuff so I can have a rolling chassis again.

New tires on the 22's. 265/35's that I scored.
All the way down, needs a C notch. No suspension in yet, just wanted to see.
Motor done and ready to go in
LS motor mounts
$1,000 CPP disc brake kit + 2.5" drop spindles
Still waiting on the bag parts (plates, cups etc). Probably going to be a while.
Meanwhile I ordered $300 worth of patch panels yesterday...
