  • Imola(boo) Timeline

was bored so decide why not make a time line.
a lot of this is going to be copy past from another forum but youll get the idea.

    Time reasoning I have an Imola b5 s4 and Bamboo b5 a4

Im 21 currently and am a Junioe in college as a petroleum engineer. I got the car when i was 16 completely stock and my first car, its a 1997 A4 1.8tQ 5sp. Bamboo exterior black interior. At first i liked the color and shifted on and off and now that ive had it for 4 years its grown on me, plan on keeping it forever. Over the past 4 years have had a perfectly reliable car and awesome year round. all the changes have occurred as of friday.

All the upgrades were thanks to ThatA4t (jordan)

This was the car friday morning.... and how its looked for the past 3 years as well. nothing different just all stock

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Took the car to a friends house friday night started coilover install around 9pm and was driving home around 1am and snapped an axle at 75 mph on the highway. pulled over called my friend who i was following and the one who did the install. managed to limp the car into a parking lot and left it there for the night.

Saturday around 3pm we went back to the car and swapped both front axles in the parking lot. We managed to move it right next to a tree so we had shade the whole time.

Got the axles in car ran great all the way home but i was scrapping every where i was 23 gtff and 23.5 gtfr. Tried to mount a pair of 17s on but was rubbing bad and didnt feel like raising all the coils

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Sunday drove it around a little being super low loved how it looked but couldnt drive how i like to. but it was still fun.

Monday went to another friends house to help strip down an e30 he is parting out and while doing that i raised my car up and mounted the 17s, BUT they had 235/45 and id rub on bumps, plus they were old and dried out so decided to it was time to just buy new tires just to be safe.

wednesday (yesterday) i went and bought new 215/45 kumhos, which ride awesome and no longer rub and im at a height where i dont hit everything yet the car looks good still.

So to day i went out and took a couple shots of the car. looks slightly different because i put on the front a4 cover as soon as i got home but you get the idea of the progress.

I still have a magnaflow 14815? that still needs to be welded on. also planning on going through the engine to ensure it is 100%, Plans that i still have for this summer are ecodes and all red tails. and for next summer i am planning to go s4 front, s4 skirts delete lower trim on doors, euro s4 rear, and a nice set of wheels.

Also plan on going lower once my front fenders get rolled.

Me and some friends met up to grab some pics of our cars the subaru had to leave early he had just got off work and was exhausted.

let me know what you think...

    few more here

Tuesday driving to work, just cruising to work in third gear minding my own business when all of a sudden the rpms fly up and i lose third, dont know what happened try to go into forth, fifth, drop to second nothing. still rolling at like 25mph i manage to pull off the road into a little dirt area. Clutch is gone and is not grabbing a single gear. Waited around for like 2 hrs, first hour spent trying to find a trailer or a way to get it home. Second hour sent waiting when i decided what the hell ill call a tow truck and just pay to get it home. $100 bucks later and a missed day of work since i couldnt make it in the car is home. leave it parked outside looks so sad just sitting there.

this is when it got picked up, tow truck people not to happy about having to lay down boards to get the car on the truck.

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Fast forward to today jordan came and picked up the car. Motor and trans are getting pulled for new clutch, as well as timing belt, water pump, new gaskets, coolant flange, seals, motor mounts, ect...($1300 in parts) going to track down all leaks, since the engine is being pulled might as well go through and do everything.

    the car leaving this morning...

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

cars been running well apart from the weird whine in first but we'll get it figured out.

couple pics from the last couple days: I know that not every one will like the cars but we all enjoy them.

Side note the blue rs is the fastest car in the group 550hp and runs consistent 11.1 on E85 should break into the 10s pretty soon

    Car burst into flames

    SAD DAY....
Car is DEAD FOR NOW DUE TO FIRE

    Story from last night
last night was int greeley for an event (2hrs from my house) get out around 11pm walk out to car starts fine make my way through town when my headlights and all power goes out for a second...(thats weird then everything back to normal. pull up to a red light check all gauges confused on what happened everything is normal no lights or anything light turns green I get into first, second lights go out all lights dim car shuts off no power steering manage to pull off.... Panic a little no lights, bad battery, 2hrs from home.

Sit there for a moment thinking, when i see SMOKE POURING from under the hood, what the hell did i blow my coolant sensor and drain my coolant while i was parked???

pop hood to flames shooting out a bunch of lines on fire. take off nice dress shirt start trying to put it out cant run to the car grab half a water bottle i was drinking does nothing. dont have anything to put it out all cars just driving by smoke every where. (two options stand here and watch her burn (HELL NO) look around an see random chunks of ice and snow from a couple days ago guess they survived in the shape. Start running back and forth trowing snow on the engine ITS WORKING. keep doing it mustang pulls over 4 girls get out with water bottles dump then on help me throw snow. Fire 90% out.

One flame left but its at the bottom of the engine!! can reach it try to reach my hand and push snow cant everything still hot, skidplate on bottom blocking everything pull out grills and try to get at it that way.

POLICE show up what wrong MY CAR IS ON FIRE! he ask did it over heat, out of coolant, girls say NO! FIRE!, he sys fire-fire? runs to the car and grabs a fire extinguisher gets it out... Finally body is good no out side burns besides what happened in the bay, girls ask if im from near by say no from out of town, then they tell me car attracts attention someone may have *&^%ed with the my car while i was at the show(i parked far back to be away from every one; cant believe it still freaking out and coughing from the smoke) Call my dad at 12am, nothing we can do, he says if some one did something to your car it was for a reason and they may be planning on taking it. Extremely upset wit everything that happened have a break down on the phone. So i have to find a place to spend the night, dad will be here early in the morning to get the car with a truck and trailer.

(event was Miss Colorado Pageant (gf was competing she is staying in town so i get to spend the night in her parents hotel room on the couch)

Go to sleep at 2 wake up at 6am and start calling uhauls to find a trailer, get one get car on trailer 2hrs later im back in golden (where i go to school 1.5hrs from where this happened) car is back home with my dad and mechanic who are tearing it apart as we speak. goal is to have it back up by the end of the week pending on how bad it is, if its to bad i will swap plates and insurance to the e30 and drive that till i get money to fix the audi in the spring/summer.

Hell of a night sorry for long read.

    Update: have some questions??

Yesterday i had a chance to start pulling stuff off and from what i could see it doesnt seem to bad still havent looked under the car.
Im trying to figure out where this wire runs too (the bare one) it was completely disconnected and the tip was pretty roasted we think thats what started it all. i was unable to get the car on stands and take my skid plate off since i only had 30 min, but will do that in two weeks over thanksgiving break. So i need a new cable (bare one) that runs from the battery to ______, also a new ground for the battery. hope some one knows where the wire goes cause im pretty sure ill need a new what ever it is. (starter was my first guess??)

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

What is located under the turbo??(starter?) and has a ground connected to it???

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Side note got the E30 street legal (plates, insurance, registration also some snow tires)

Sorry for terrible pics my camera was out of battery...

Imola comes into the whole story..

Ok well here is the story I purchased this S4 at an auction on tuesday. Got it towed home that same day. I believe it to be a 2001.5 but am not 100% sure on how to tell. Paid what i though was a good price, and sold my e30 a couple days ago to help get this car back on the road. Ran the Vin only comes up with once owner who surprisingly lived in a town 20 min from my house

The bad and what i need help with the PO ran into a curb during our last snow storm and visible damage is bumper pretty much destroyed. and the lower control arm is bent.
Both arms are bent. (aluminum ones above and the sway bar)
        1. should i buy used ones and replace it to see if it runs after that or go ahead and buy the fcp complete kit and just do all of it.
2 see anything else potentially damaged

IMG_0646 by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

When we bought the car is was not starting but it was just a died battery. Jumped the car started up great. Due to the bent arms though we did not want to try and move it.
All damage was to the front passenger side. The auction people were ass hats and removed the side skirt for I dont know what reason and couldnt get it back on so they BENT it in half and put it in the trunk!! I think i can repair it with some fiber glass on the inside if not ill find a new one.

Coolant empty because the radiator was removed to see if there was any addition damage.

IMG_0636 by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

You can kind of see the front tire pushed back it was pushed all the way back to the side skirt. ( might be why they took it off but still doesnt make sense)

IMG_0633 by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

I have located at new bumper, and shifter knob
If i get it up and running before school starts again (jan 9) i will swap my coils from my a4, ecodes, and JHM boost gauge.
        My a4.

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Jan.3.13 by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Got the front end installed (radiator, fans, ect)
And began pulling the bent control arms and the axle which also looked bad. Tomorrow i will pull the driver side. CAs will be tuesday, axles tomorrow, BUT i leave back to school on monday so car will be sitting till spring break most likely.

        Small update.
came home for the 3 day weekend from school so decided to go visit the s4.
Its been sitting for a month, but about a week ago i picked up an oem imola bumper for $80 (thanks to a local member). Needs a little bit of work its cracked on the bottom but no where near as bad as mine was so it will be repaired this week. May or may not need a powersteering pump, my dad said it ran perfect when he used it but yesterday when i started it it was making noise... Plan is to have it on the road by the end of next month with coils and headlights swapped over. (start of show season)

heres a couple pics i took while with the car i was mocking the bumper up to see if the color was close enough to the body color. wasnt fully mounted so dont mind the gaps.

So my LONG 3 day project came to an end today haha (front/rear rotors and pads)

Day 1: got home from work, jacked car up and broke all the bolts loose, but then found out there was no c clamp or cap compressor.. so had to wait till the next day

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Day 2: grabbed a C clamp from by days work, so when i got home got the fronts done super quick since everything was loose already. get to the rear and for the life of me can not compress it with the c clamp or a big screw driver. So i call it quits and go online and try to figure out whats wrong on forums. Read " seized piston common problem in b5 s4" Dammnit!!! look at other thread and they said has to be pressed and spun at the same time.

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Day 3: (today) on my way home from work stop at Autozone and rent the pad spreader thing that will push and spin and what do you know the piston isnt seized (correct tools make life easy). Quickly get driver rear done. switch jacks to passenger side get the rear done in like 15min tops (felt like a pro) then i get to the fronts which ended up taking 1.5--2.5hrs because of an issue i ran in to. Thread here Got it all done will some perseverance and now im just waiting on new coolant hoses.

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Passenger side on stands/ driver side done

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

Thanks doing my best to try and get it up to a nice "reliable" daily.

Well that weird clutch noise came back, only makes it when the clutch is fully pressed (??)

Still not sure how to feel about the all black grilles but it better than silver and itll have to do till i can afford to either spray front and rear bumper or get the whole thing resprayed.. So i went ahead and blacked out the whole front grille but didnt like it so i peeled off the rings and am feeling better about it.

So I went out for a couple minutes before it started raining and hers where she stands as of now (dont mind the grilles remember they are temporary haha)

this is just prior to me plastidipping the grille.

          as of december 2013

Well started the coilover swap on saturday
--removing sts from a4 super easy took one hour.
--reinstalling stock suspension OMG that was hell, compressing those stock springs all the way down was near impossible, took 3 tries of readjusting compressors
got the a4 back to stock tuesday night

here she is back to stock height [=(]

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

pulled the s4 into the garage got the front loose last night but had a hell of a time getting them out

this morning went out got the driver side out super easy (guess i needed rest)

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

wrestled with the pass side for 45 min and was struggling so much (almost cried not really but it was annoying)
THEN!!! i engineered the crap out of it!!

Untitled by Nathan Tello, on Flickr

finished and went to throw on the a4s 17s but they did not clear the front breaks.

in the a4 yea probably just build it and big turbo. Im a year and a half from graduation and then ill have some income to be able to work on both cars. Right now im dding the S4 and the a4 is stored away in the garage until i graduate. maybe if i get brave over summer ill start pulling the fenders and saving the sides.

Great story! What coilovers are you using? & Exhaust looks clean on the imola s4. But you need more rim, less tire, and a tad bit more lows. Your a lucky man though, the car looks like a perfect daily driver... two turbos, a sweet exhuast, g ass interior and the classy audi appearance.

Yea quite the experience, it didnt end up being to much damage but no matter the damage i wanted to keep it and fix it. Luckily i got it out before it spread to anything major with all the ice chunks on the side of the road and my nice dress shirt.

Thanks to silverEsfo who found some imola grilles in the classifieds i was able to get some matching grilles. Also to MaineAvant, we ended up trading grilles.

the car is extremely dirty and that is very clear in the pictures with the clean grilles in. Was going to put my fogs in but they are at my parents house..

Took a Test this morning at 9am felt i rocked it and was in a good mood so i went back to my room. Grabbed my camera and went out for a spot to shoot. Found a massive lot filled with snow so i messed around for a little then took some pictured and called a friend (e30) to come up also.

Title been listening to Raz Simone -Still mobbin so decided it fit.

playing a little catch up since i for got this thread. I copied and pasted my post from Audizine.

                              march 2014:

This is 8 hrs of mountain driving yesterday. Was up at 4am getting ready for my interview 3.5hrs away. left my place at 5am on the dot.

1 hour into the drive pulled over to wipe off all the windows, no traffic and weather was pretty clean up to then, but after this stop i ran into some snow and rain.

got to my interview finished and left, it was raining pretty hard, so an hour of rain driving wasnt to bad kept my speed at the limit passing all the slower cars. After an hour of rain driving it turned to snow and then got really bad. So bad they closed the pass and kicked us off the highway about 1.5hrs from home (at this point id driven 5-6ish hrs) so i wait around and see some cars lined up on the on ramp waiting for them to reopen so i pull in line and wait for 15ish min then they let us on but we have a police car as a pace car and three snow trucks in front cleaning the way. 30-40min of slow driving they get out of the way and let us fly its all up hill, about a 1mile from the peak of the pass i notice coolant temperature is climbing .5 mi its still climbing and i have a flashing coolant light but i have not way pulling over. i push it till the top where i find a rest stop pull over get out and smoke is pouring out from the wheel wells i cant open the hood cause if frozen solid.

I had a case of waters in the trunk so grab 5 bottles and dump them on the hood and bumper to melt the ice! finally it opens. All the ice covering the grills from air going in and the fan in front of the radiator was frozen solid. grabbed more waters and got the fan spinning again. sat around for 10 min started the car again and temp was back to normal. cleaned off all the windows from sitting for 10 min and was on my way

an hour after that indecent i was back home, pulled over to fill up after i was off the mountains. (it was an inch of solid ice covering the front of the car)

That Brings us up to September!
and this is where my car currently sits, as of about a week ago (wheels)

couldn't be happier with the way the car currently sits. It still has its quirks which i am slowly getting them all taken care of. Plan for the winter it to polish the wheels to match my mirror caps and trim for next spring/summer. (plan for camo is to run it through winter assuming it holds then pull it off in spring as well).

Heres some pictures from earlier. Wheels were mounted yesterday, thanks to mike hawk for the tires.
