  • #wtfisthat? A story about Deloris, the Audi Coupe GT

Welp, I figured it was about time to document my progress, trials, and tribulations with my seemingly significant other, Deloris. Deloris is an 85 Audi Coupe, and is (and shall remain) my pride and joy. The name stems from the simple naming convention, "The Audi", then, with the never-ending comments akin to "Is that a Delorean?", "What the fuck is that?" "Look! it's a time machine" etc etc , then "DelorAudi", then it just evolved into a more personable name, Deloris.

ANYWAYS - here she is upon delivery :

Sad and barely alive - I replaced every ignition/fuel related component.. and learnt about CIS in the process.

Unfortunately she still ran like shat and misfired constantly. I chased every wire under the hood, testing and comparing to my ancient CIS "trouble shooting" books I had come across. Nothing. Nothing was wrong.... All of the sensors are working WTF. Finally, I decided to swap the ECU (because, well, who doesn't have a couple spare ECU's for an ancient car laying around?) And fucking TAADDAAAA it ran like a motherfucker. Turns out the ECU was full of water. FUCKING H2O

(that came out of the ECU...)

So. She runs. Good, I might add...

Then, I learned about Meyle. Fuck Meyle. Fuck them with a bat wrapped in barbed wire.

Hundreds of dollars I spent on replacement "HD" and "OEM" replacements for EVERY suspension component... Which all lasted about 5000 miles. There is nothing I haaaaate more than doing something twice.

So I said fuck it. And rocked this bitch all over the country. I drove to Florida. Delaware (BTW I live in Michigan) Delaware some more. Then I moved to Delaware.

    Yea. People live there. Crazy.

Then I made some friends, actually through StanceWorks. How convenient. Specifically, Jonny. Jonny is fucking awesome, and without him I wouldn't still be driving this car, so, to Jonny, Thank you <3

    This is Jonny's rabbit :

And how absolutely ridiculously low it is...

As you can see, I had some inspiration. I knew where Deloris had to be. I photochopped this together as a rough guide :

AND planning began. How exactly do you lower a 28 year old car with one piece strut/knuckle assembly's and no (real) aftermarket support. Let's be honest, I'm not lowering a Civic (no offense)

I decided to go with B2 Audi 80 struts, knuckles, hubs, and CV's (outer, to be specific). And for brakes, I went with B5 A4 calipers and rotors. However, this still doesn't resolve the low portion. Up front, I went for some Koni Yellows, A1 Racing sleeves, and 6" Ground Control springs. Out back. They are actually MK3 Golf B+G coilovers, cranked all the way up with Weitec springs. Umm, a bunch of other parts from 034... I don't know.. a lot of things. I can get more specific if anyone really cares. Or is even reading this... Does anyone actually read anymore?

Anyways, front set up, kinda :

Moving forward, I needed some wheels. Why not steelies? So, as Jonny so elegantly put it, I put "8 inches in her rear"

I also put 8" up front... but I couldn't think of a way to make that one sound dirty. 15 x 8 0 offset all the way around. Wrapped in 175/55/15's for a mild stretch =

Did I mention there was beer? Lots of beer. Cheap beer. Natty Boh and PBR fueled this build...

Rolled and pulled the fenders. Then pulled them some more. Then rolled again. Turns out I may have miscalculated the 0 offset thing... Anyways, I got it close, and we packed our shit and headed south for H2Oi 2013 :

I don't have many pictures while I was there - I was too busy sorting out the unbearable grinding from the caliper dragging on the top of the rotor

If anyone has any pictures of Deloris in Ocean City (or anywhere, for that matter) - Please post them up!

Come Sunday, I had to make the trip back to Delaware, and the already bad Meyle LCA bushings got worse. I found out when I was doing about 80 and the car just about fell apart :

Not cool. Queue more 034 parts, of the Delrin variety.

Another late night, all ready to go :

Might as well drink away the pain

Some Instagram pictures because I can't find the charger to my DSLR

Anywho. That's all for now. Thanks. There will be more. Follow me on Instagram (@icant3dmodel) if you like. I'll occasionally update stuff. Sometimes. Maybe.

While I'm not sold on the "stance" look, I do love me some old Audi's.

This is the 1.8L Coupe GT right? Not the 2.2L Quattro GT?

Do you mean your not a fan of stance? or that this doesn't meet your classification of stance?

                          Also, it's a 2.2 I5 FWD Coupe GT

Those steelies came from summitracing - they ship internationally, no?

As far a respray - who knows, it looks so haggard I would h*te to change it... I do plan to fix some of the cancer and POR-15 the underside, but it's far too cold for paint to cure right now :/

Not a fan of stance, for the most part. Occasionally it will surprise me.

As for this being Stanceworks, I noticed. Most of the builds I follow are not solely for the lows. But, back to OP. Don't mean the threadjack.
