  • my custom 63 bug build

I'm new here, and as I posted in the intro section, I've been a lurker for a minute. I think some here will dig my car, so I'll just jump in. (pic heavy)

here's how I bought the car.

after getting it home, it was stripped, & the body seperated.

the pan was rusted out, so new floors went in, coated with bed liner top & bottom.

there were several rusted out spots to repair.

normally this car has the big back window, but now it has an oval clip.
while setting it right, I found tons of bondo. turns out, this car has had a roof clipped in.
while pulling the body back out, I decided to remove the rain gutters too.

after a few thin layers of filler & glaze on the roof, the wheel wells got the bed liner treatment.

thanks, i'm having fun with this build and definately want to fix up more of these.

next I bought a dash from some cool aussies, and started the move to right hand drive.

I came across a set of rusty pedals. refurbished them & got them on the pan.
I had to modify the pan for them, and the new master cylinder and hard lines,
also cleaned up the front beam, welded in adjusters too. the steering links had to be cut to length, and the steering swapped over.

I sandblasted the stock smoothies, and they were starting to flash, so I threw red color on.
I still didnt know a color for the car, so I tested candy red on the old dash.
since its colored now, I finished it off & hang it on the wall now. liking the red, I started on the trans & axles.

body goes on, here's the rear travel, & i get the front air going. I had to move the lower mount,
for better leverage. I had to move the upper too.

Yea, I finished the dash & hang it on the wall.

Since I liked the red, (over other colors I tried) I used red on the axles on the trans. Consequently, the whole car.

so, the interior. I figure i can set it up, and finish the outside later on.

I cut my own door cards, and wrapped them to a shape that matches the window crank & handle. I wanted a rivet look, instead I found large head screws & used them to hold the cards on.

completed door, glass, seals, and card.

Man, killer job on this restoration! That was quite a rust bucket when you started out. Nice work, loving all the red, that dash looks badass.

thanks man. check in later, I'll keep posting more. I don't know why all the pics are so grainy though. I must have a resolution setting that's off somewhere.
