Well I made a lot more mistakes yesterday, Might have to start again…

I was pulling the fender,



Got it pretty close too..



But I didn’t tack weld between the door frame and the flare… So I warped the panel out of shape.

:/





So now I need to either start again. By cutting this off or making this one somehow work...

Thoughts and Ideas appreciated. Havn't started on the other guard yet...

More stuff to add, didn’t really make progress but getting the research out of the way.

After destroying the Nissan guard, I decided to try a different shape..

This time I found a Honda CF6 wagon.



Took the other guard to see if it had similar width..



Bought them both…
Started chopping



I found that this guard shape, although it was wider it didn’t have a nice shape to it from side on.



While thinking about what to do, I cleaned up the passenger side.

It wasn’t cut as high as the Drivers side, so I measured it up and re cut it to make it even.

I was all out of gas so had to use flux core, which wasn’t ideal. But I’m happy with the results.





I do like how these look from the front.






I even tack welded one on to see if the shape would change much.



It just confirmed for me that I want something with a nicer line.

I’ve been looking at Audi guards, Just trying to find out which models use Steel vs Aluminium. As I won’t be able to use the aluminium guards.


Anyway, I have my new favourite photo. Love this car even if it’s totally mushed together.

isn't it the space frame that audi made out of aluminum and if there are aluminum body panels they should be restricted to A8?

I thought that too. But also read somewhere that the front bonnet and fenders were aluminum on some models. I'll try go to the wreckers this weekend. I'll take a magnet with me to see if they are steel or not.

Regardless I might be able to chop out the rear flares.. but I don't think they have as much flare as the fronts on some models...

I chopped the first guard up.



This has a better shape to it.

Will still need a bit of work.

Just taped on for now while I figure out the positioning.

Glad I won’t have to do too much on the front.

Today after work, I got a little bit done.

I ground off all of remains of the tack welds from the last two guards.

Then I positioned the guard where I want it. Then marked off the door line.





I tested the sideskirt on. I now have another issue. How do I get the curve of the guard to flow into the line of the sideskirt.



Same as the back. I'll have to figure out where to cut it to get it to flow best with the kit.

I seem to just like buying guards…

Found some Audi A6 Guards last weekend.


I want to try again what I did with the Nissan Maxima guards.




Chopped







I had a play on photoshop to position it where I want it, and to simulate the cuts.



From that it gave me better idea’s on where I want to draw.



Still haven’t cut it yet. I’ll try and take my time with this one.

At least this one follows the lines of the car a bit more nicely.

Who knows.. time will tell.
