    Cheers guys,

Finally got into cutting this weekend.

    First the left side.
    Marked / Measured

    Cut and fold.

I used a craft knife to create the creases to form the folds.

Now on the right hand side

I tidied up the right side of the guard.
I cut to the right of the 70mm line

I also realised there was nothing for the bottom part of the arch to weld on to.

As you can see it’s recessed as an end cap goes in here.

So I marked on the guard where I should probably cut. (The filled in lines)

But before cutting, I realised it will destroy the whole shape of the guard and I liked how it flowed right down to the kit.

So I found that I might be able to attach the lower part from the rear.

    Drew a beautiful line

    Made a little joiner?

Ground back the line so I could weld on it later.

Test fitted the piece. Will come back to it later.

I also found the bottom of the guard fouled on the end cap. Meaning it wouldn’t sit flush when I go to weld it on.

So I made a quick cut and bend to the lip the was fouling. Maybe I can also use this to hold the bottom of the guard down securely for when I roll the guard.

Then before doing any welding, I tidied up the guard fold. Sprayed it with Zinc paint.

    Put it outside to dry.

Later on, I decided to finally weld on the guard. Not super tidy, but I’m happy with it.

Then the dreaded cutting out the door.

This time to not mess up the guard. I’ve made a joining strip between the gap in the guard and the door jam.

Make a stencil with some paper and dirty fingers.

Check to see if it’s close enough.

Apply template to spare guard steel.

After some shaping, I welded it on.

    Thank god the door closes.

Will tidy it up but she holds strong now.

That’s all I have for now.

Hopefully get some more done tonight.

This is awesome, I love how much research and development you're doing with the guards. Seriously good work!

But you're giving me ideas for my next build too, now to just find a car that I don't mind cutting up...

I seem to just like buying guards…

Found some Audi A6 Guards last weekend.

I want to try again what I did with the Nissan Maxima guards.

    Chopped

I had a play on photoshop to position it where I want it, and to simulate the cuts.

From that it gave me better idea’s on where I want to draw.

Still haven’t cut it yet. I’ll try and take my time with this one.

At least this one follows the lines of the car a bit more nicely.

    Who knows.. time will tell.

    Haha you cracked me up.

    ^^ cheers guys.

Today after work, I got a little bit done.

I ground off all of remains of the tack welds from the last two guards.

Then I positioned the guard where I want it. Then marked off the door line.

I tested the sideskirt on. I now have another issue. How do I get the curve of the guard to flow into the line of the sideskirt.

Same as the back. I'll have to figure out where to cut it to get it to flow best with the kit.

    Cheers guys.

Went to the scrap yard today.

    Found my next victim.

    1985 Toyota starlet

I chopped the first guard up.

This has a better shape to it.

Will still need a bit of work.

Just taped on for now while I figure out the positioning.

Glad I won’t have to do too much on the front.

Loving this! Shame about the first fender issue though.

Regardless, makes me so happy to see actually body work/ flares/ whatever instead of crappy rivet on flares. Keep it up!

I thought that too. But also read somewhere that the front bonnet and fenders were aluminum on some models. I'll try go to the wreckers this weekend. I'll take a magnet with me to see if they are steel or not.

Regardless I might be able to chop out the rear flares.. but I don't think they have as much flare as the fronts on some models...
