well, it's been a while since I updated this.

First, I painted the driver door handle black to see if I preferred that. and I do, here it is:


Then it snowed. a lot.



Then I replaced my cold air intake with the stock intake. Here is the before picture. I'll get an after picture eventually, but it looks like a stock bay.


And last, today I got my oil pan replaced because the old one leaked, so I bought a hybrid pan

Not sure if the issue ever got solved, but the flashing light and bogging down is usually due to bad wires, plugs or cracks in the coil pack. Very common on vws, especially the 2.0ls

It turned out to be the intake, now I've got weirder problems:

On the highest setting, the windshield wipers will stop and not turn back on for 5 or 10 seconds, but it doesn't happen every time they are on, making it hard to find the problem, and when I need the wipers on the highest setting, it's utterly terrifying when they stop and I can't get them to come back on for a few seconds.

The other thing is that probably once a day, the car randomly thinks the driver door is open causing the dome lights to go on and the door chime to start. It can usually be remedied by pushing the unlock button, but sometimes that is only temporary for that particular ride so it happens repeatedly until I can open the door and close it again.

The second issue is the door switch

The wipers could be bad relay or the ignition switch. My other suspicion is the wires are breaking off the stalk and shorting to one another.

^Thanks for the help, the problem went away on its own. But now the radio doesn't work. first it went into safe mode, after calls to several different vw dealers, I got that resolved and all the functions of the radio work except that nothing plays. something is not right with the connection to the speakers or something. I've taken the radio out and put it back in and checked on everything several times.

I also bought the wood grain and found out I need the entire radio cage.

And at the same time, I also bought the stock emblems and the battery box from some douche parting out his car.

First I removed the soft touch that was peeling, then I put in my new radio



Then I put the amber side markers back in right before sowo




And today I reprinted the driver and passenger handles, they're still not perfect though so I'll probably end up doing them again

Wow, I didn't realize I had neglected this thread so long

First, I replaced my dipstick and cabin air filter because the dipstick was broken and the air filter was disgusting







Then I replaced my intake filter because it was also really bad





And then I went to the junkyard and grabbed two vents because mine were broken, but I wasn't paying attention so I ended up grabbing both for the right side, so I only fixed that one and then got the other one set right and I'll just try to remember not to move it. I also relocated the rear defroster button so it is close to me instead of reaching to the passenger side, but I broke a clip on the connector when I took it off, so the button still lights up but I don't know if the defroster will actually turn on, but I'll just go get a connector from the junkyard if it doesn't work

Also I have been working somewhere cool the last week Just making food but it is still cool getting to talk to the drivers and see the cars. The widebody R8 on HREs was my favorite car there but the only pic I could get was while I sped by it on a golf cart














On a side note, I have to drive the Jetta 300 miles down to Savannah this week because I start college down there on Monday and I have never driven it that far and when it is hot out and I am on the highway for a while, the stick gets stiff. I know how to fix it, it just isn't a fun job and I hadn't gone on the highway enough to worry about it before.

I really like the mk4 body style. My only advice is do not let people work on your car for you. Let them work with you, but not for you. Only time my car gets worked on aside from myself (and friends etc.(I'm always involved)) is when I'm getting an alignment, tire mount/balance, a ball joint, wheel bearing etc. pressed into a spindle with a press I don't own, or professional paint work. These small commuter cars are cake. Just dive in, there are forums longer than the Bible with great information in VWs and most Japanese / European cars. Just remember, if you have an issue, 100,000 other people have as well.

I took the bumper off while I was waiting for the truck.

I also met another car guy while I was taking off the bumper, but everyone I talk to here I never see again because there are so many people and classes are so spread out

I finally replaced my broken reflector

Well this car is for sale now. I did install a TT short shifter which I don't think I ever mentioned in this thread, but that is the only update since the last time I updated this
