  • ^ Good choice. I like diamond stitch a lot, but too much of it can look really busy. Glad you're using it as sparing accents.

Is the W202 headliner pretty flat? I've contemplated doing synthetic suede on mine, but it's pretty deeply molded around the door openings and pillars, and I'm concerned about convincing it to stretch. Curious whose product you wound up with.

yes its fairly flat except on the sides. it didnt stretch to easily but with some clamps overnight to hold it in place while the adhesive dries helped a lot i have a few wrinkles i have to press out though. I also used suede that was backed with 1/8 inch thick foam. the products came from showtimefabric , and southernupholsterysupply. they're online and on ebay.

more teasers. should have it installed by weeks end if all goes as planned.

thanks man! the visors were a pain to get done had to hand sew part of them to close it all up. most of it was machine stitched though.

now for the updates. My switches were located in the ash tray previously on my c280 I decided to attempt to redo them and it didnt turn out well at all this has how i have had them for the past couple of years since owning the c43 and getting rid of my old w202 c280.
I relocated the switches reupholstered the gauges as well as did the headliner because it was falling and installed a grip royal royal mahogany wheel.
            before

this is the knee bolster under the steering wheel I decided to move the switches here for cleanliness. It is not to convenient if i want to hit the switches while driving with hand controls. but much cleaner IMHO.

and how the switches turned out! and this is how the guages look. theyre in the same location as before just restored the ash tray to clean wood.

in process of wrapping the sunroof door with diamond stitch

also. While i was tackling my diamond stitched sunroof door my brother who sews custom five panel hats decided to whip up a quick beer cooozie with the left over material!

now onto the fun part. crawled my crippled a$$ into the back seats and got the C pillars and rear of the headliner dropped. Moved up to the front seat and unhook the sunroof clips and center console. Dropped the sunroof card completely by myself Which some of you are asking, "ok and ? not a big deal" well being that i cannot walk or use my legs what so ever I felt very very accomplished having tackled the removal of the headliner, re-upholster and reinstall Completely by myself. My first time doing such a large job alone.

after about three hours of adjusting my seats ,wiggling and manipulating the headliner card.
            ITS OUT!!!

one of the hardest parts of this job IMHO aside from the constant transfer in and out of my wheelchair was getting rid of all the old foam. I tried paint scrapers and adhesive removers they just soften it up and make it a huge mess. I ended up using a stiff bristled brush and brush it all away along with a vacuum as i went to suck up all the old adhesive & foam bits.

used 1/8 thick foam backed suede 2 yards at 60in. wide and 4 cans of 3m 90 hi strength. I first attempted brush on contact cement but had a poor experience with how well it held.

and now the fun part putting it all back together.
Lonely chair just waiting for me to finish my work

half way there. finished getting the back held up. Still not a lot of room to work in the backseat of a W202

getting the clips around the sunroof attached were a pain and it sat like this for a good hour or so before i was able to finally get it all in place a second set of hands during this part would have been very helpful and anyone else reading this who has a 202 and wants to tackle this job should employ the help of a friend.

            done deal!

Thanks dude! I really like how it turned out as well.wasnt sure how the diamond stitch was gonna work up against the suede especially since its two different thicknesses of foam. The headliner literally took all day from start to finish for just the removal process. Did i mention this is my second W202? I knew the steps involved it was just a huge job without a helping hand. I then upholstered it let it sit a full 48 hours. and reinstalled. putting it back in was only about a 4 hour process. Lots of transfers from chair to car and vice versa. One of the hardest parts was transferring into my back seat on such a small sedan with virtually no leg room.

                          • Great work on the recent interior updates. I will never understand why MBs tend to have the pillars and ceiling of the interiors in a lighter color than the rest of the interior... Looks sick in all black!

Thanks brotha! im for sure loving the all black tho. Same here man, I just dont get who thought. Lets use a color that doesnt compliment anything else in this cars interior. like light grey vinyl against a blue and black leather interior. These W202 roof liners flow somewhat decent with the two tone black/white(greyish white) AMG interiors. Even my beige/brown C280 interior had an off beige color on the headliner vinyl that didnt match the rest of the interior
