awesome pics mate, absolutely love the details and colours. I'm going through similar stage with my mini and its nice to see someone document it so well.

    Definitely needs an update though!

The rear seat had some rust working its way through above the rear subframe.

Since the car will be getting a cage, I went ahead and removed the rear door bins and trimmed the rear seat bottom. There's still some final clean up that needs to be done on both.

And with plans to run a center exit exhaust, I figured I would shave the side exit while the valance was still off and sitting around the shop.

Oh nice, 1293 was the bore I was considering as well. Get a thread started, man....I wanna see it!

Thanks, Sam. I have a lot of fun with build photos since they're a step away from my usual car photography projects.

This is a rather minor update, but as this is my first foray into restoration work and this panel stands as my first (of many) panels in the project, it felt pretty great sliding it into place and seeing that it fit like a glove. I cut out the old haggard panel that had been butchered for speakers and replaced it with the early model panel. I need to go back and prep for welding and then it'll be ready to really go in. Everything lines up nicely and should be a rather simple job.

Oh those colors look excellent together.

I think I'm just going to replace the entire panel for the most part. The current one is bent and crumpled beyond belief.

I'm still not sure what possessed the previous owner(s) to crudely cut out 3 gaping holes to mount 2 small 6x9 speakers on the rear shelf, but I'm working on repairing it. The only panels available now-a-days are from the later models so they come with 2 big holes for the OEM speakers that were equipped in the more modern Minis which is not in line with the look I'm going for. Fortunately, a buddy of mine was parting out an early model car and he snatched the parcel shelf panel for me with the two smaller holes. This will work well with the back-dated style that I'll be going with.

I wish I could swing it, but got my hands full. With the car projects, finalizing new garage/shop build, renovations to the house, and a family.... only so much time in a day. But I'm trying to get it to the point where I can just hope in and cruise and enjoy the cars and time with the family. Sadly Trabi has never been trusted to make it out of the neighborhood other than twice to DC for the Trabant Parade at the Spy Museum. Hopefully not anymore! I'm gonna be buzzing down the highway... at 62... maybe 70 if I am lucky.

Obviously being so local I have a bunch of friends going, but.... I will not be attending. I am actually trying to get my other ride, the Trabant, together for a local Air Cooled show that same day/weekend. I have sadly neglected the car, and last drove it probably November last year.... now the brakes don't work, engine don't run, etc. So I am killing myself the past week and half to get it back on the road. Good thing I ordered most my parts from Germany 6-8 weeks ago, most of it showed up early last week! Never been to H20, maybe one day.
