No way! Cheers dude! Which one is your polo? Piccy please!
I gonna keep the 1.1 in this one... then when i can afford to run a 3rd car, ill get myself another Mk1, and do the Vr conversion.

Ive recently been thinking about changing the rear lights for an all red set! I am still undecided!
Also, i am already thinking about what i can do to her over this years winter!
I was thinking a Vr6 supercharged conversion... but having thinking carefully, i have decided it would be too much of a crime to take this original engine out as there are under 200 left in the UK with this engine in... and im sure plenty have had engine swaps and not been declared on the log books!
I have been thinking about rebuilding the 1.1, and polishing everything i can, and possibly having it smoothed in the way of no cables etc on show, but still looking original!
Just ideas that im playing with in my head, nothing is going to be decided for a while i think!

Recently, i managed to get the cam belt, waterpump, alternator belt, thermostat, points, condensor, plugs and rocker cover gasket changed!

She runs cooler now, and i no longer leak... out of the engine anyway!.

The heatplate has previously been painted in ordinary paint by the Muppet who owned the car before me! And when it was heated for the first time, the paint bubbled! I have another one, but i have not got round it fitting it yet as the spare engine is at the back of the shed!

I managed to get my hands on a 1:18th scale Mk1 model, with gold bbs wheels on, which i paid a small fortune for as i just had to have it!

My baby also had a photoshoot with a photographer! What a treat!
Awesome guy with some great work! Lovely that he wanted to take pictures of my Mk1 when he is normally out in Dubai taking photos of supercars!

I took her for MOT, and she passed with no advisories on the old wheels!
As soon as i got her home, that was it, new wheels being fitted and the coilovers being wound down!

I was rather pleased with the results!

    Mid fit

Heres a few photos other people have taken at a couple of shows!

I set about changing the lower arms, bushes and ball joints, and i think it was fair to say that the old ones were at the very end of their life!

    New ones fitted

I put some GTI side stripes on that i bought from http://volkswagenstickers.co.uk/ - they make all their stickers to the original specs, and to the best quality i have seen.

I went to change the front brake callipers for recondition new ones - but i could not get the same callipers as my existing ones so i ordered the other type of calliper that was also originally fitted to the car. I was not very keen on them but they would do the job.
I started to swap the calliper, disk, flexy hoses, and pads on the one side, and was unable to thread the flexy hose into the calliper... strange? After a bit of thinking i discovered that for some reason, the new callipers had been tapped with a left hand thread?
I took them back to the car spares place i had them from, played my face as im sure most of you would have done, and decided to send my existing ones of to be reconditioned. That way i knew they would be the correct ones!
Once i got them back, then fitted on like a dream!

    Old vs wrong calliper!

My own reconditioned callipers all fitted with no problems.
I did position the flexy hoses correctly afterwards with the protectors etc.

New original VW choke cable - special order from germany! Almost £100 for a bloody cable!

The new badge fitted! Look at that shine!

    Winter was here!
I took her off the road over the winter to start picking away at the list of things i wanted to do to her to make me a little more happy!

I started to collect a few parts!
Mint condition center console with mint condition vdo dials.

New lower arms, bushes and ball joints

A genuine VW badge, unused and was in the original bag!

    Brand new Hella headlights

And a few other bits and bobs to tidy her up!

I stripped the insides out! And while doing so, i found an old spark plug under the carpet? What on earth was that doing there? Atleast i had solved a rattle!

Fitted new dash lights as all of mine had blown!

Refitted the carpet as the mupet that had owned the car before me had never fitted the carpet correctly! I also sorted out some of the wiring at this stage and tidied it up!

Not looking to shabby. Much better than it looked before!

On the lower dash/undertrays, i bought some decent second hand ones, but i was not told they had several holes in them, which would have drove me crazy knowing they were there!
So i had a play with a soldering iron, melted the plastic back into the hole, and tried to recreate as much of the texture pattern as possible with the soldering iron. I didn't think the outcome was too bad!

    Before

    After

I still have so much more to add to this thread until it is at the present stage!
Been busy driving her about over the past few days, Mk1 Golf annual gathering, and the Alldubs show have taken up this weekend!
Maybe more to be added in the week!
