  • GC8 With A twist? Why do I even waste my money...

Let's start from the beginning shall we? we have much progress to cover!
It all started early june of 2012, Went around looking for a new car and came across a deal
I couldn't pass up. A 1993 WRX Type RA for pennies. When I picked her up she looked
    like your average commuter.

But she had many problems. exhaust leaks, blown struts with coilover springs, fucker'ed
coilpacks, cracked cv boots, bad powersteering pump, blown headgasket, bad waterpump.
I bit off a little more then I could chew for sure. But it was a good base to learn on, so I got
    to work.

Turns out things were a tad bit worse then I had anticipated. The car has had a blown
headgasket for quite some time and the previous owner in JDM land decided it would be a
great idea to fill the coolant with tap water... over... and over... again. This caused a shit
load of corrosion and a bunch of the coolant lines to become nothing but... well nothing,
really. Heads were warped, valves had been bent, and I cried myself to sleep. However,
There was some good news, The old ~100k km block still had the cross hatches on the
    cylinder walls... finally something good.

Sadly this is where the photo's end for this part of the cars life. I ended up getting too
angry and broke to take pictures. I just wanted it to work again.

Fast forward a couple months and I end up conserving myself enough money to buy some
goodies to get her running. Ended up getting new internals and heads. Scored a set of
used ej20g heads off a buddy of mine and had them machined down and got a valve job
    dome on it!

Things were finally looking good for once, the car ran amazingly with no fuss, then disaster
    struck.

A dick decided it was a great idea to go through a service lane 80km/h in -30c on an ice
rink. ended up loosing control and side swiping my car causing it to hit the car infront of
me. Hit me hard enough to blow my headgasket a-fucking-gain. also mangled my tierod,
steeringrack, and my last ciggerett was broken in the incident...That mother fucker.

Ended up going through insurance for a month and a half as he tried to blame it on my
while I was in my parked car. luckily I had a witness and a police statement from the both
of us, which I stayed with my story and he didn't. So in the end I got $5030.00 to fix the
    bugger.

In came new parts. Cometic .30 headgaskets, arp headstuds, exedy clutch, act flywheel,
new tierods, new seals all around. I must say we definatly made her mechanically
    bulletproof.

for a while she looked pretty ghetto. but thats just how it was, ugly but it worked.

Then things took a turn for the awesome.

Came across an individual who was selling some speed max (OG XXR's) with rubber for
$250! put em on and drop her low-ish and that's how she currently sits!

In the hopefully near future I am making this RWD, welding the center diff and probably
gonna blow my R160 rear diff. then change it out with maybe a R200? who knows! only
time will tell what will happen next!

Recently made my brothers 02 rex RWD, he loves it. He's broken a couple axles but still on his R160. Hes got one welded and one open for dailying. Make sure you do all solid bushings in the rear, the twisting in the rear end is what snaps the axles on a low HP car like your GC.

Low HP! I sir am insulted! ahaha But, its not you're average gc8, that's for sure!

Glad to hear some success stories with the R160's. I've heard mostly negative aspects behind them but I think as long as I dont clutch kick the shit out of it I should be doing alright!

I always thought bug eyes came with R180's? Or, am I mixing it up from when they changed over to 5x114.3 & 6speed during the blob era?

Subaru's are generally made with nightmares in mind. They run on hopes and dreams!!

And I need a big sig, its to make up for other things like having a small... nose....

                    ANYWHORE,
quick update, not much has been going on, with regards to RWD conversion I'm waiting on a friend of mine to gather some time so we can get to work. However, I ended up snagging a Ford Prob lip off of my #1 subaru Buddy. It doesnt fit perfectly but for free I'm not going top complain, personally I think its ultra dope and anyone who disagrees has a mouth full of wang.

So generally since my last update ive done some general maintenence, new oil, oilfilter, transmission oil, fuel filter, plasti diped the front bumper....

                      ... AND

Took the rear portion of the transmission off as well as the driveshaft, poped out the center diff and welded the spider gears, removed the front cv's (but cut off the portion attaching to the wheel assembly so it doesn't fall apart)!

TADA! RWD Subaru, inb4 flaming, "why the fuck would you do that and not get an s13?!" etc.

I give 0 of the fucks.

also if you plan on making your subaru rwd, wrx's have to have that one bolted on portion of the cv axle for it to work, the rest you can chuck, no plugs into the tranny required. also, on a old legacy you can just take the cv axle out without that portion cut off and kept bolted on, some subaru's are different so don't believe everything you read on the internet!

Big props to Colton at "Piston Broke"
                      10/10 great guy would recommend.

Generally it cones down to being awake for over 28 hours and not wanting to crash my baby. But, she breaks loose real nice and the lsd is pretty neat-o. Pictures will follow soon enough!
