  • Should Some Sorta Stanced Silver Sonic Stay Static? Sure. :P

Sorry, messing around with a tongue twister. muhahaha

Well, finally decided to make a build thread. lol

Originally planned on leaving my Sonic as a relatively stock (and functional) daily driver despite making a bunch of stanced Sonic photoshops, but that sorta changed once I got rid of my project car... RIP ST162 Celica. You will be missed dearly. :'(

Anyways, I'm sure no one wants to read that sappy story, so I'll just jump straight to listing out mods and picture dumping. lol

Vehicle: Silver '12 Chevy Sonic LT Turbo Hatch

    Mods: (in chronological order)

-Premium Trifecta Tune. (Tuned to 23psi of boost on 91 octane)
    -Ultragauge
    -B&G Prototype Lowering Springs (Sold)
    -Visual Garage Shark Antenna
    -BadlanzHPE 2.5" Electric Exhaust Cutout
    -DDM Shifter Bushings

-BC Coilovers from a Chevy Cruze
-Plastiderped chrome part of Chevy badge (removed)
-Random mustache found on the ground (removed)
    -Tux the Linux Penguin!
-Totally random Ground Control/Eibach Celica rear coilover springs: Had these lying around from when I had my Celica, and decided to slap the rears on for lulz. Still not low enough, but it'll do for now. :/ lol
    -Plastiderped rear bumper

    Waiting to be installed:
    - Smaller Front Springs from previously mentioned Celica coilover sleeve kit
    - Motorsport Tech Adapters 15mm 5x114.3 to 5x105

    -TBD
    -Something with a mustache
    -Something that quacks
    -TBD

When it was on B&G Springs:

    Springs:

    Coilovers:

    How it currently sits:

    Still needs moar low.
This is pretty much the lowest my current coilovers will go (I even removed the perches in the rear...) so I'll have to figure out another way to go lower...

    Preview of future mods:

    Adapters:

    Wheels: AutoCouture Function DS
Rare Japanese 2 piece wheels made by Enkei.

    Test fitting 18x10 in front

    Test fitting 18x9 in front

    JDM as fudge. :p ahaha

Kinda want to run a reverse stagger set up, but I still need another 5mm to clear my front coilovers... -_-

As for the lips I mentioned, I'm thinking about getting a lip like this:

    or this:

Just worried that my car might be too low for the first one once I get the fitment I want. (Would like to tuck way more tire) Either way, I would be the first in the States with either kit, so that would be pretty interesting.

More to come soon! Hope you all enjoy this thread! Thanks for looking!

In the US, they are Chevy Sonics.
In certain places outside the US, they are either Chevy Aveos, or Holden Barinas. I have yet to see one with a Daewoo badge.

As for a front emblem delete, the badge is actually molded into the bumper, so it would take a significant amount of work to get rid of it. That, and I don't really mind the emblem. (I've seen pics without it, and it looks a bit off in my opinion)

It would be nice to get a little bit more function. haha
Reverse Stagger on a FWD car would help make it a bit more prone to oversteer, which in my opinion is more fun than understeer. :P haha
We'll see though since the build has more form than function. lol

I wish I could, but it's hard enough finding those wheels in those specs since they're rare and discontinued. I've only seen like 4 other sets on Google so far... (all of which had different specs)

Finding wheels for this car is pretty annoying because the Sonic has one of the most obscure bolt patterns on earth. (I think only like 3 other cars in the world have this bolt pattern.)
Good luck finding 5x105 wheels with aggressive specs. haha

I would like a square set up eventually though so we shall see.

Normal Stagger: (only test fitted one side so it might sit a bit lower once they're actually on)

              Ideal fitment:

Yeah, my car definitely needs to go lower. haha

Nah, this car shares its platform with the spark and i think the new cobalt?
Old geos and aveos were daewoo kaloses with chevy badges.

Interestingly enough I've heard that these are probably the (relativeley) best cars in chevy's lineup.
I don't mind the styling either and I love those wheels

It will probably require a decent amount of work. Granted I only had 2 of those wheels on in the unedited photo, but my coilovers in that image are almost all the way down. (actually, my rears are all the way down with the perches removed.)
The 18x10's also poke quite a bit, so I'll have to find some camber shims, and maybe stretch some skinnier tires for better fitment. (It currently has 235/40's. I'll probably go down to 225/40, maybe even match the fronts with 215/40 if I'm feeling silly enough.)

                            Thanks.
That will most likely be the case since this car is my daily. I already scrape my exhaust and rubber lip on stuff at this current height. (and I've been stuck in a dip once before.. Granted, I do have an electric cutout that sticks out pretty far, but still...) Really stinks since my car doesn't even look that low.

Actually, this car shares its platform with the Chevy Cruze, the Chevy Volt (which is based off of the Cruze), and some random Opel or Vauxhall or something. lol
Cobalts were discontinued a while back.

Sonics and Cruzes have many similarities, from the same engine options (1.8 N/A or 1.4 Turbo in the States) to the same crappy bolt pattern (5x105).

It's funny because I used to only be into JDM Import cars. Never would've thought that I'd be driving a Chevy. haha (And yes, unlike its predecessors, the Sonic is actually mostly made in the U.S, so it can truly be called a Domestic. lol)

It's boosted, and gets 40+ MPG. Can't really complain.

hey roll with it man. cant knock the sonic. 40mpg and boost. im sure eventually you might check out bagging it if you cant find a set of coilovers that can get it as low as you want. also might see about getting adapters or wheels drilled to your weird ass bolt pattern lol
