  • Still waiting on my head bolt tool for the new engine so i can take the head off. Thought it was going to show up today.

Still managed to get something done though. Noticed the back lights in my equaliser wasn't working. Turns out all 5 bulbs had blown. So dug out my spares and stole a few bulbs from other ones. Had be be soldered in. But not that hard. I only have 3 of them lol.

    Much better

Also yesterday I did a quick 5 min photoshop of the engine bay look I'm going for. Might take a bit of work to get the air filter in the location I want but I want it in the proper mk2 location.

    • Well, the Golf is now of the road and tucked away nicely in my unit and will be watching me build its new heart.

Speaking of the new heart, Head is off and I'm relived to say the bores look very good. Not even a lot of carbon build up in the head. Exhaust ports looked great though so I wasn't that worried.

      • This is my secret to getting the air box on to the mk2 side. A Passat Turbo that sits the other way around.
I bought a cheap scrap one to check clearances before spending loads on one that works. But might be able to swap the internals from my turbo to this one. They are both K03 so they should be the same. Or I could just get a K03s or K04 passat one while I'm at it. We will see.

It fits great mounted to the mk4 golf exhaust manifold. Loads of clearance for the mk2 rear engine mount. Very happy. The compressor side housing might need to be rotated a bit to clear the bulkhead but that isn't to bad on these. Will just have to make a custom mount for the wastegate actuator. And I will need custom oil and coolant lines to use this. All this for the air box on the mk2 side. Well and the exhaust will have a better route too. Not so close to the steering rack boot.

        • This is honestly one of the nicest, tidiest VW build threads I've read in a while. Hats off to you for keeping it neat and organized, with a great OEM+ like vision in mind.

Looking forward to seeing the swap done!

          • Thanks! I try my best. Once I have the vision it has to be done like that if possible.

                • No worries man. Happy to help.

                  Thanks guys!

Got to love how well this fits with the mk2 mount on. Looks like it was designed like this. I might even be able to use the standard inlet piping flipped round. That would be cool. Just would need to rotate the compressor housing.

                    • Thanks. Yeah hopefully it comes back out of the garage and doesn't take too long to do the conversion.

                        • Wow dude, this thing is brilliant!

Usually not too big of a fan of vw's, but this kinda changed my mind. I love the color, and especially love the OEM+ touches to it. Gonna be mental with the turbo engine in it too!

Good luck with the swap, I'll keep checkin' in on you
